Comments

I seen to have a shadow down the right hand side, sorry fir the poor photo, bad enough have a poor quality painting.

An excellent painting Paul and it looks like you have achieved your goal here.

i quite like the shadow

Good challenge, good result Paul.

Denise, Elaine, Jim and David thank you for taking the time to look and comment it’s appreciated.

Super painting Paul. Great detail of the bark coming away.

Definitely achieved the right effects, that peeling bark is particularly good

Interesting and beautifully painted, Paul!

Thank you Spencer , Heather and Anne for your kind comments.

Good tree Paul, details and shadow.

These old trees make for great drawings, they’re full of interesting texture and colours. A great job done here Paul!

Shadow hadn’t been noticed! The bare wood is done really well, Paul.

Richard and Alan thank you for for you comments they are really appreciated.

Thank you Marjorie I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment.

What a lovely fresh and clean painting, this is. It really appeals to me, I love trees.

Cracking subject and painting Paul…..even down to the woodworm holes!

Lovely detail in this Paul especially the peeling bark.

Denise , Fiona and Christine thank you the very kind comments. I think a lot of people take trees for granted , there just there a part of the scene. Trees are a great subject as you say Fiona and have a lot to offer the artist. I do love to see the old trees shedding the bark , they have a beauty about them and so much detailing.

Great work Paul. Bare wood looks great 👍

Very detailed …. I like it 🙂

Dead oak brought to Life Paul carry on the great work

Paul many thanks for you kind comment.

Caught my eye immediately, Dixie. A great study well observed. Bri

Brian thank you fir taking the time to look and comment it’s appreciated.

There are a lot of subtle details in this. Like it.

This is lovely - a difficult subject which is really well observed.

David and Bobbie thank you for your kind comments they are appreciated a lot.

Missed this one earlier, Paul - you have created some lovely textures and colours.

Really like this Paul, the peeling bark is beautifully done on this dead tree. Your palette is very well chosen too… a great shaped tree.

Thank you for kind you comment Carole , I was hoping to achieve the grey , sage green look of the dead lichen and bark , I think I managed it to some degree .

Don't worry about the shadow, it often happens to me too, and it does not detract from a well observed and well executed painting. I particularly like the different textures of the bark and the bare wood.

So good to do exercises like this Paul. This is a great study.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Karen

23x 32 cm watercolour painting of the top of a decaying oak tree. I set my self the challenge of painting this old stags head oak , I find it easy to overwork something like this what I wanted wax enough detailing to tell the story. Certainly hope I have achieved this by leaving the suggestion of fissured bark in some areas . From a photo I took a few years ago, these old trees are so beautiful in the landscape and full of insects etc.
