A beautiful painting Alan , one of my favourite subjects the barges are excellent and the old building looks really good.

Another fine painting- l think your blues are a perfect contrast for the splashes of colour in the sails and buildings - great work Alan

Another super painting. Just love the blue tone of the painting.

I love the sky and water, so much to learn from, so many different hues and tones, beautiful

Beautiful blues in the sky and sea.

So fresh Alan, you can almost breathe the air. A stunner.

Lovely work Alan; your use of blue is beautiful. A real painting for any location.

Wonderful and that warehouse certainly completes the painting

I love that sky and water, seamlessly going from one to the other.

Pleasing to the eye like the blues.

Well what can be said that hasn't already. Just a beautiful work of art Alan.

Beautiful, Alan - love the sparkle on the sea and the graceful shapes of the old sailing barges and also the old warehouse.

Another wonderful painting - love the blue tones and the light.

Another superlative piece. Wonderful brushwork and energy in this painting. Excellent work, Alan!

It's all been said...another cracker.

A wonderful palette of blues and greys Alan, love those sparks of colour here and there.

Magic bit of orange draws the eye.

And another masterpiece!

Beautiful blues great sky and fine detail, wonderful Alan.

Once again my sincere thanks for all your comments, always appreciated!

A really lovely, impressionistic oil. I particularly like your high key, light filled paintings when you just add a few areas of mid to mid dark tones like this one.

Another dream of a painting Alan. I do like your use of orange in the sky and the reflections in the sea.

Another gorgeous painting Alan, beautiful loose sky, lovely highlights on the building and sparkly water and the subtle hints of warm colours, wonderful.

I new that was an Alan Bickley. Wonderful brushwork.

Another unmistakeable Bickley. Now - why hasn't a prestigious institution like the ROI snapped you up? You're easily as good as, and in many cases far better than, artists with a string of initials after their name. I would bet that that sort of thing doesn't matter to you - but it does matter to buyers and galleries; and perhaps to posterity. Besides which - you could get a book deal out of it, and one book I'd really like to read is Bickley on Oil Painting. And this is emphatically not a joke.

Thanks Robert! Actually I’ve never submitted any work to them in their annual exhibition, which is open to artists such as ourselves as well as obviously members. But it’s not an easy route to become a full member, a bit of luck is always helpful. It’s probably too late now, thanks for your comment.

Another ‘big sky - low horizon'. Painted from imagination, but I came across that rather interesting warehouse from an old photo of Wroxam, altered it somewhat and made that my focal point. Oil on board 40 x 50cm
