Oil Sketch

Love the colours and light you’ve created in the sky

We'll you got the feel of the day's end very well so it worked!

Love the way the vloud formations lead you to the flash of magenta in the sky.

Thank you Eleanor, appreciate your comment. I’m not convinced Marjorie lol but thank you for your encouragement. It was too beautiful not to try. Thank you Stevan, I’ve made it too central I think…..I was in a hurry! Good practice.

Super painting Fiona, great colours and atmosphere.

I love this - particularly the dark horizon against the sky .

Wonderful dramatic painting!

Like a lot Fiona! Love the movements!

A pretty good effort! You’ve definitely captured the time of the day here. I know it was probably there, but that’s a fairly hard edge, I would take a finger and smudge parts of it into the sky - even introduce some sky colours into the horizon! It will help… believe me!

Lovely sunset, have attempted myself but never in oils... usually make a terrible mess!! This certainly captures the atmosphere.

Absolutely gorgeous!

You have captured a wonderful evening sky, Fiona - great!

Wow! Fabulous sky!

Thank you all for your encouraging support and feedback, I’m always interested in your comments. Thanks Alan, I’ll take your advice and have a smudge about with it.

I think we overlapped Michael! You are very generous. Thank you for your observations about the ground colours, I’m pleased you think they look convincing. Regarding the dark edge, it’s probably too dry to smudge as I did it on paper, it dries out quicker! Thank you again Michael.

Great sketch, love the foreground marks and colours.

Lovely and the use of pinks great

Love this Fiona - I think the dark edge looks very realistic. You know me well enough to know my attittude - if it's there paint it !!!

Lovely feel to your painting Fiona. Lovely sky too

Drama, drama and more drama. You are an inspire Fiona..

I’d say you captured your sky beautifully Fiona, a good atmospheric painting.

The contrasting lightness and darkness have worked very well and there is a lovely sense of the time of day. The splash of light In the foreground helps to balance the whole scene. Really like the soft edges you have achieved in the clouds.

I like the way you have painted the sky Fiona.

A fabulous sky, Fiona. You get the feel of the quickening darkness. Beautifully captured.

Very nice!

This is superb. I can see the light from where you are as well. Glorious.

So very atmospheric, Fiona. Very, very well done.

Wonderful atmosphere Fiona, that sky is fabulous!

What a super sky above the dark foreground, Impressive !

Lovely vibrant image. Great contrast that get in the evening.

Thank you all ever so much for your kind and generous comments, I’m very grateful. I wasn’t very confident about this, you’ve given me the courage to try something like this again. Thanks again.

This is wonderful Fiona and has great impact. I do think Alan is right in that a little spread of the sunset colour would add, but it’s already a terrific painting and you captured the moment which you saw and we of course didn’t!

Tessa, thank you very much for your kind observations. I enjoyed trying the dark landmass more than the sky to be honest….lol.

Excellent painting Fiona, love the dark foreground against that lovely sky

Many thanks David for your lovely comment, I’m glad you like the foreground……it was something new to me.

Very atmospheric and very well captured!

Thank you very much William!

16”x12” oil on paper. Tried very quickly to get the bones of this sky done as the sun was sinking behind the tree line in the fields at the back of the house. It was almost dark, everything else looked black……how do you paint the dark?! Lol As you can see, I haven’t a clue……splodged some paint on and hoped for the best.
