Superb - the painting is so atmospheric! Love the heavy skies!!

Great sky, distant trees and the furthest snowy fields - the foreground snow is less convincing… This snow isn’

Nice painting Fiona I like the atmosphere of it looks cold and wild.

Lovely Fiona! Love the delicate sweep of snow.

Transports me there. I think there is a really good observation and translation of colour.

I love the heavy skies and the sense of snow flurries blown about by the wind Fiona. I am trying to get myself in the mood to have a go at an atmospheric sky painting at some stage and your lovely picture is helping to get me into the mood for it!

Thank you David! You think it needs more snow Al? I did think that myself but didn’t want to over do it, as I normally do. Thanks for your observation. Dennis, thank you very much , a great compliment coming from the king of atmosphere. Many thanks Carole, I’m a bit premature! Thank you for that Jacqueline, I like that you are feeling the elements…..as it were. Have a go at it David……use this as a starting point if you like. I used a large brush for all of it, big sweeps of thin paint for the darks on first. Then built up the layers with lots of dragging over the under painting, lightly over the trees and the foreground. Finishing off with stronger whites rubbed in with a finger for the distance, and again dragged thicker paint in the foreground. I use the side of the large brush and also hold it right at the end……you have less control of the marks it makes. Thank you very much for your comment.

Great atmosphere and tones Fiona, love the warms in the foreground too.

Love this Fiona! There is a touch of Turner's snow storm about the sky which is fabulous.

The land is wild and unforgiving, my favourite part is moving past the fence and the distant trees to what looks like a hint of power lines cleverly placed on the horizon. Beautiful painting.

Love that sky, nice the way you've 'warmed-up' the snow

I think Alan is right but I love the atmosphere you have created.

Wow, Fiona you have certainly achieved some wild atmosphere here especially with that threatening sky! It's super- though I wouldn't like to be out in it!!

Thank you Michael, I’m really pleased you like it! I felt wild and lonely whilst painting it…lol. I’ve used ultra marine (deep shade,) burnt umber…neat and mixed for the greys with varying amounts of warm white (a lead white alternative) raw sienna, ultra marine pink and titanium white for the brighter snow bits. Thanks again. Bryan, thank you very much. Thanks Sarah, I’m going to look up Turners snow storm. Thank you Denise, you spotted the power lines! I put them in lightly with pencil. Willie thank you very much for your comment. Yes Heather, cropping the bottom quarter of the painting looks much better….too much foreground perhaps. Thank you for your observations.

No me neither Anne, luckily I can see this from the window and I made the weather conditions up! Thank you!

A lovely painting Fiona and beautifully as you normally do.

Brrr! Don’t want to think about it! As everyone has said, Fiona, full of atmosphere, one of those “heavy” winter days. I hope you’re not tempting fate here😳

Such a lovely sense of power and movement, Fiona. And as others have said, the atmosphere is so striking, it really feels as though I am walking amongst it.

I love all that movement, Fiona!

Beautiful painting. Lots of energy. Lovely textures

Great sky, Fiona, but don’t want to think about snow and winter just yet!

This really jumped of the page Fiona, a good sense of distance and bags of atmosphere. Love it!

I love the feeling in this it’s so full of atmosphere, really excellent painting Fiona!🥳👍

Very eye catching Fiona your painting is so full of energy it's bubbling.😁

A lovely picture Fiona, I love the atmosphere and the way youve transitioned the colours.

Many thanks to you all for your kind words, I’m very grateful for your support. I hope I am not tempting fate, although we may not have the white stuff at the moment, I’ve just switched the heating on!

Wow, impressive

Wow Fiona. What a fantastic sky, so much energy.. Love it

I really like this Fiona, the threat of what's to come in that brooding sky and the flurries of snow make me shiver.

I love the effects of the light dusting snow, Fiona. The sky too adds to the atmosphere. It has a somewhat semi abstract/contemporary feel to it.

Romila, Carol, Russell and Ellen……thank you very much for your positive feedback, very much appreciated. I thought I had gone a bit to dark and brooding but it just happened!

Absolutely fabulous. As long as it not of what's to come .... Howling gales, snow and floods.

I certainly hope not Gudrun! Thank you

So much drama Fiona, I love it :)

Thank you Carrie, appreciate your comment.

Fabulous sky, wonderful movement and energy, gorgeous colours. Reminds me of a wild sea!

Diane, thank you very much. A friend of mine said it looks like a boiling sea!

Nice textures Fiona. Overall atmosphere and a lovely feeling. Regards John

16”x12” oil on paper. One of my usual local hedgerow subjects but I’ve skipped a season…..practicing the heavy skies and snow dusted fields……no sign of the hills behind those clouds.
