Fiona you have certainly done a better job than I could with buildings, a lovely drawing

Thank you Glennis, much appreciated.

You're turning these out quicker than I can comment!! Your previous reply; sorry, but no. it wasn't a late party - regrettably - I just couldn't sleep. But, as always, I was delighted to find a new Fiona posting waiting for me! Re the above. Lovely palette but there are two things amiss, if I may say so. The first, as you have already recognised, is that you have lost the perspective at the right hand end of the building. But secondly, the building appears to be plonked down, not in but on the foreground, with no middle or background. In consequence it looks isolated and the picture lacks depth. There, I've said it! But it is meant kindly.

Hi Lionel, yes I'm on a bit of a run with paintng at the moment, I don't know what's wrong with me....I can't do enough. I'm sure it won't last though! Lionel, I would rather have honest criticism, how else will I improve. I'm not naturally gifted at art, so I have to learn by practise and mistakes, and from people like yourself who will point out where I could improve. I see what you say about the byre not being rooted and the lack of depth; how about if I do a bushy-type thing on the left, or would behind it be better? And a broad stroke of shadow in the foreground? Any ideas gratefully recieved. x Thank you for taking the time to give me your advise. I'm doing an oil at the moment and strugging with the background, wasn't sure how to tackle it and now I have.....don't know whether I've done the right thing. Hope you will look out for it and give me your opinion Lionel.

Love this, Fiona! Your ink and wash paintings have a lot of character and atmosphere. Really enjoying them!

Thank you Seok, it doesn't look like this anymore, I took Lionel's advise and added background tree's and a broad sweep of shadow at the front. It does look much improved.

Another pen & wash. Whilst sat in the garden yesterday I also took the opportunity to have a go at painting our byre. I try to stay clear of doing buildings as I'm not very good at perspectives....as you can tell. The colours of the red sandstone and the lewisian gneiss looked lovely in the sunshine. It's a super dry stone built building, just wish I could do it justice. The hair type mark on the right is in the paper. Thanks for looking.
