Excellent sketch Alan , that paper sound really good. Over the last six months I have bought some good quality sketch pads , the difference in the paper has a huge effect on the finished sketch . I’ve always been thoughtful about watercolour paper but never paid much attention to the quality of sketching pads , until now.

Rapid and good Alan, beautiful sketch. I looked at Stillman and Birn sketchbooks, I can't find any larger than 9x12 inches. These days I prefer larger. The choice of sketchbooks seems to have improved recently, no doubt to accomodate all those who want to produce more finished work in them. I read your excellent piece in the latest Artist on this subject. I've ordered a Strathmore Journal pad, it's 9 x 12 and 300gsm. Suits me perfectly and can take whatever I throw at it. Wish they did a larger size. For that I've gone for Artway A3 sketchbooks. Next time I need a 9 x 12 I'll give Stillman & Birn a try.
