What is TALP?
The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Art Competition (TALP), in partnership with Patchings Art Centre, has been offering artists of all abilities the chance to earn recognition and prizes for their artwork for more than 25 years.
Each year we invite submissions of two-dimensional works in any media (including drawings, paintings, printmaking and digital artwork) to two categories - amateur painters in the Leisure Painter category, and from more experienced and professional artists in The Artist category.

Why should I enter?
- 70 works in each category are selected by esteemed artist judges, David Curtis, Haidee-Jo Summers and Liz Wood and editors of The Artist and Leisure Painter, Sally Bulgin and Ingrid Lyon, for exhibition at Patchings Art Centre, opening on the first day of the Patchings Festival in Nottinghamshire, from 11 July to 11 August 2024
- The 70 exhibited works will also be featured on the Painters Online gallery, which will go live from 11 July 2024, and will be eligible for the public vote for the People’s Choice Awards - view the 2023 exhibition here
- Art prizes from our fantastic prize sponsors are awarded in both categories
- A selection of exhibited works are featured in the magazines, promoting artists to a worldwide audience.
- TALP is open to artists of all abilities and worldwide - you never know where your art could take you!

Brand-new for 2024, we're thrilled to offer young artists the opportunity to enter their own categories within The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Art Competition (TALP).
The Young Artist of the Year Award gives young artists the chance to enter one of two new categories:
- Under 18
- 18-30
One winner from each category will be selected to have their work exhibited at Patchings Art Centre, within the full TALP 2024 exhibition. Each winner will also receive a unique prize from one of our fantastic prize sponsors.
