Our 2022 TALP Open exhibitions run at Patchings Art Centre from July 14 to August 14, where prize-winners will be announced, and continue online from August 15, 2022.

The Artist Purchase Prize winner 2021, Paul Talbot-Greaves, encourages you to enter.

'Entering painting competitions can be quite an anxious proposition. Putting yourself forward can feel like exposing part of your soul to be judged by others, but if you let that get to you then you’re taking it too personally.

'There’s also those thoughts running around your head – what if my work isn’t good enough? What if my work gets rejected? Well there is never any progression without risk and risk is essentially what creativity is all about.

'So for me, winning The Artist Purchase Prize Award was an amazing achievement. It came in the middle of a particularly difficult period in my life, which made winning the award even more special to me.'

Farm in the Valley Bottom, watercolour, (38x56cm) by Paul Talbot-Greaves, winner of The Artist Purchase Prize Award 2021

'Taking the risk to put my work forward even when the chips were down was exactly the right thing to do. Winning the prize was a huge boost to my morale and to my painting confidence, plus it’s my first painting to be part of a permanent collection at Patchings Art Centre and I’m really excited to know that so many people will be able to view it over the years to come'.
