John O’Neill


Born in Belfast in 1966 and a lifelong painter. A resident of Stavanger Norway between 2018 and 2021 with a UK base near Reading England and in Aberdeen, Scotland. Most recent work is Scottish landscape, urban scenes and contemporary Norwegian landscape, often working in oils or gouache, line & watercolour although often using dry media and pastel, mixed media, encaustic and linoprint. Very much involved in plein air painting and urban sketching in addition to studio based work. Work is in collections throughout the UK, USA, South Africa and Europe, has been exhibited in the UK & Norway and featured on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the year television program In 2019, 2020 and 2023. A member of the SSA (Scottish Society of Artists) a counsellor of the Aberdeen Art Society. Regularly shortlisted and exhibitor with The Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (RI), The Royal Ulster Academy of Arts (RUA), The Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW).
