Oooooh yes. I have an old oak like this at the top of the garden. Inspire… thanks .

Wonderfully drawn.

Wonderful tree and wonderful drawing, Alan.

This is excellent Alan and drawing it from a homemade Reed pen, that must be so satisfying when you produce such a beautiful piece.

Wish I had wonderful trees in our garden we just have 10 fences down. Great drawing Alan in your ink work 👌

Superb drawing Alan, old oak trees are the kings of the forest

An impressive tree and an impressive drawing Alan, and a home made reed pen - impressive!

Very skilfully realised Alan!

A superb drawing Alan of a beautiful old tree , I do like the colour of the walnut ink. I must have a go with a reed pen the markings look so good.

Super drawing Alan. I love old trees like this, so much to look at, but I find the upper branches difficult.

A beautiful drawing of a characterful tree. Inspires me to whittle a reed pen and explore its potential.

Terrifically Pen sketch, impressive,

Wonderful drawing Alan, you can see your graphics background coming through! Love the hint of green.

Great drawing of an impressive old oak, Alan. Like the touches of green.

A grand old oak, beautifully rendered.

Super drawing of a great subject, these old oaks are living history.

Beautiful drawing, good use of the reed pen.

Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments, I always enjoy reading them!

I first drew this gorgeous old oak tree about 20 years ago which stands in a nearby field, and I’m pleased to say that it’s still standing proud today. I’ve used a home made reed pen with walnut ink for this quick study, they’re such an expressive implement to draw with… well you only have to look at the drawings of Rembrandt, who was undoubtedly the master of reed pens. Reed pen and walnut ink, on Ruscome Mill India Office drawing paper.
