I love the warmth of the tones in this painting Alan.

great painting, wish i could do oils!!!!

I love this, it’s wonderful.

A lovely painting -full of warmth.

really good Alan, lots to like here

This is excellent Alan, I like the way you have kept it sketchy looking the colours give it a medieval look to me for some reason.

Lovely glow to this one Alan, nice composition too.

Impressive colour & light.

Lovely overall work Alan; love the light in the cathedral windows that gives a welcoming effect.

I always shy away from architecture, scared to death of it to be honest! I would love to be able to create the impression that you have captured here, of this almost medieval scene. I love the palette too, soft and mellow which adds to the feeling of age. Smashing Alan!

Love the way the cathedral looks down in a protective way over the town and the lovely warm tones on all the buildings Alan. Lovely result of a very complex painting.

Lovely composition and warm colours, Alan, I especially like the foreground buildings. (Just read your article in the latest copy of The Artist - love the Doxey Marshes painting - very different to your usual work, and so vibrant.)

This is lovely Alan, the warmth of the colours and the wonky roofs in the foreground are very appealing.

Very impressive Alan. Love the rich tones.

How to bring buildings to life. This is really interesting Alan. It almost looks like pastels not oil. There is a lot of variety in how you have used the paint and it all gels together extremely well. I really like it.

Well what great comments, I’m so pleased that so many of you like this one, I’m always very appreciative.

So many positives to say about this painting Alan - the light in the cathedral windows is a great addition.

Very joyful and warming picture

So very impressive Alan, everything from the small figures to the winding road leading you up to that magnificent Cathedral, love the colours and just the right amount of light. A lot to be learned from this painting !!!

Impressive all round Alan, and I especially like the slightly wonky looking houses in the left foreground. A great character piece.

Thanks once again to a few of the latest comments, appreciated immensely.

Really lovely Alan, very pleasing colour palette, I really like the sketchy aspect. Agree with Tessa the wonky buildings in the foreground makes it all the more charming.

Wonderful Alan- I love the composition and the shadow across the building in the front- it doesn't look like an easy piece to paint !! Your brave!!

Love the impression of a lose technique on the cathedral.....and the light on the foreground buildings.

Always up with the best of them Alan

Oil on MDF 20 x 20in. Architectural scenes are without doubt among my favourite subjects to paint, far more challenging than landscapes, but both equally enjoyable. I’ve kept everything loose and almost sketchy in places on the Cathedral, also incorporating some glazing in places, I hope that it all gels together! It’s worked up from an old C1960’s sketchbook ink drawings, it may be from a visit to Canterbury!
