Wow - love this!!!!

Clever use of feathers Fiona. Lovely colours and stark contrasts. Yes I like Paul Riley’s orientalist work.

The trees work exceptionaly well with feathers Fiona, I really like it.

Fascinating stuff Fiona. Very creative and full of life.

Creative and exciting stuff Fiona, a lively expressive result!

A lovely loose painting, Fiona. Always good to experiment. You've done a good job with this.

The prolific Fiona Philips, l over the abstract nature of this one and the colour combination really works.

A wonderful blend of “happy accidents”. Lively and lovely.

This is eye catching, Fiona! Love the inks with the watercolour and the abstract nature of it. Beautiful blues.

This is really effective Fiona, very nice marks. Glad the gull in your previous post escaped with his feathers in tact.

Wow, very striking, super Fiona.

Striking and very creative

As experiments go.......... Excellent. So loose and so eye catching, using those colours. The trees are great. Must look up Paul Riley and am tempted to dig out my watercolours.

Thank you all ever so much, you are very kind to comment on my messing about picture. I wasn’t familiar with this artist, it’s his knowledge of brushes and some of the concoctions he makes up to purely make a mark/marks. I was interested in the mark making qualities of his homemade brushes rather than his work to be honest. This is made up from ink and watercolour splodges really. Using a large mop brush I scrubbed clean water in a hit and miss fashion on the left, then splodged a good strong mix of raw sienna in to part of the water then after a minute or two dropped a few splashes of Indian ink here and there….the water did the rest. Did the same with the ultra marine and manganese blue but not so much ink. When dry dipped my scruffy feathers in to neat ink and drew in the hills and fields far right, the trees and the other swirly bits and bobs. Thanks again.

A smasher Fiona, great mark making and colours

Love this one Fiona, instantly recognised it as one of yours

Heather and David, many thanks to you both for your kind comments.

Great abstract Fiona - looks fresh and crisp.

Clever work here Fiona. Simple but lush. Lovely work 🥰

Just love the simplicity Fiona you have achieved so much impact with a minimum of marks and limited palette I absolutely love it.

I like your messing about picture a lot Fiona , sometimes thing work out far more interesting when we are not trying . This is a perfect example of what I would call free art , no pressure, no rush, not stressed about the out come , hence a lovely painting.

Love the spontaneity here Fiona!

Impressive Fiona.

That’s dynamic. It’s simplicity and freshness is wonderful you are so versatile and creative

Dympna, Faye, Barry, Paul, Louise, George, Diana I’m very grateful for your observations. Sometimes, not doing very much on the paper works out……wish I could get it right more often! Thank you.

Lovely, creative piece Fiona x

Smashing work, Fiona!

You have developed a distinctive style and approach to painting- I really enjoy looking at this Fiona.

Diane, Cesare, Shaun…..thank you so much.

12”x10” watercolour and Indian ink on Saunders paper. I read the fascinating article ‘A brush with destiny’ in The Artist this morning by Paul Riley. So I’ve been making brushes this afternoon and having a play with ink and watercolour. I have lots of feathers, so tried a few of these first…cut them, screwed them up and pulled a few to bits. No birds were harmed in this process. 🐔
