It’s Dreich Out.

Lovely colours, I use them quite a bit. Your painting has a autumn / winter look, I particularly like the trees.

Dreich is not a word I, or the dictionary, recognise but I know what it means from your painting, beautifully expressed.

That was quick Paul! It looks like winter out there, apart from the trees in full leaf. I use light red but not Indigo and haven’t mixed them before. Most of my greys/neutrals are a mix of ultra marine deep and burnt umber/burnt sienna, I usually only use four colours at most in watercolour. For landscape, Ultra marine deep, burnt umber, raw umber, raw sienna....sometimes light red. Aren’t I the adventurous one! Unless, I’m doing something abstract-ish, I use a brighter palette then. Thank you for your feedback Paul.

Lol.....it’s a Scottish term Katy, it means dull, dreary, gloomy, damp....take your pick! Thanks very much for your comment Katy.

I love inventive painting Fiona. This is just that. Lovely.

Beautiful expression of dreary weather, dissolving everything around. Very imaginative and love the flow of colour Fiona.

Full of spontaneity and so atmospheric, Fiona. Great!

Looks like my suggestion of light red and indigo is paying off again here miss Fiona! But it’s a cracking combination and a pretty good wet day effect has been achieved! - watercolour was made for such days!

You are so good at these spontaneous watercolours, Fiona. Love the colours.

Taken note of the colours used Fiona, will have to give it a go, really looks like a drab and dreary day, for some reason it reminds me of looking through the car windscreen with rain running down, 👍😀

Thank you Jim, looking out of the window through the rain made it look all diffused and soggy. Carole that’s an excellent word to described the scene...dissolved.....thank you. Many thanks Mia! You are right, not a day to be dallying outdoors Michael. I’ve filled the bird feeders and cut off a stray branch that was blowing about in the 50mph winds from one of the willows, that’s me for today! Have you thought of trying your French scene again in a kind of loose and half done way? If that makes sense. As always, thank you for your very kind and positive comments.

Yes Alan, it’s a mix I will use quite a lot from now on I think. You can get some really good darks and almost black with a good concentrated mix. Thanks very much. Thank you Jenny, I like the slosh it on method! Linda, that’s exactly what I was trying to get across, without painting in all those rain drops running down the glass! Carole above gave a good description.....dissolved. Thank you x

Simple composition but very effective ... a delightful image.

This caught my eye immediately, Fiona. I love the colours and the contemporary feel to this.

Now I know what Dreich means !!! Your spontaneous watercolours are great. Really like the distant trees,

Dreich it may be Fiona But it makes a lovely delicate scene beautifully painted.

The colours, the tones and wet in wet shadows say it's a wet day. Just like it is outside today. Good one Fiona.

A big YES Fiona.

Lovely and refreshing painting. Very well done indeed 👌

Love the palette and your spontaneity with these water colours.

Atmosphere captured perfectly Fiona.

Another great one Fiona, love this kind of thing you do, I know the term Dreich, my climbing partners father was Scottish and she used it often, in my part of the country we would call it 'Claggy'. Love the pallet Fiona and the mark making, great stuff, nice one.

Simply gorgeous, Fiona!

Many thanks everyone for your super feedback , I’m very grateful for comments, they are such a boost.

Accents in all the right place, with loads of atmosphere. Lovely work, Fiona!

Thank you very much Seok, your comment gives me confidence.
