I love this painting Paul, so much detail and interesting to look at. I think you have done a terrific painting, thanks.

This is absolutely brilliant Paul, the detail is wonderful and i love the cranes

Yes, an excellent and interesting piece of work Paul, some lovely detail and a tricky subject.

Good one Paul

This is really good work Paul, lots going on and a terrific painting, 👍🤗

A very impressive ship, Paul - lovely work.

Thank you all for your very kind comments. I enjoy painting these old ships and trains etc, there is something about the older ships that had a certain suggestion of adventure to them. It’s the shapes as well with all the derricks etc, for me that’s the fun of painting them the challenge I suppose.

A very impressive painting, Paul, with lots of details in it. Great work!

Superb painting Paul- so many things to look at and so much detail. Well done.

Full of interest and so well painted

Good one Paul

Thank you Mia, Christine and Ceri for you kind comments.

Romila thank you we must have been writing at the same time.

Love it Paul! Beautiful detail and depth

Now there’s a subject I’d avoid like the plague! You’ve certainly done it justice

Great nostalgic painting of London docks in busier times. Very well executed Paul.

Such detail, lovely

The ship was captured well, beautiful !

For me, this is one of your best ! I can only repeat the comments below.

Very well painted Paul, you have handled this quite complicated subject extremely well.

Thank you all for your very kind comments that are very encouraging much appreciated. I think when you like a subject as much as I do old ships it seems to bring out the best in you. I do love to paint them but try to spread out my choice of subject, my fear is that if I painted maritime scenes all the time I would get bored.

It’s all been said Paul, but this is fantastic. Great admiration for the detail you put in.

Splendid Paul! Terrific work of all the ships, boats, cranes etc. Your love of the subject comes through in your work.

Thank you Katy and Fiona for you very kind comments. I think we all have certain subjects that we prefer to paint or sketch , old vehicles, ships and trains are at the top of my list followed very close by landscape especially with trees. It’s noticeable when I see some of the work on here , which subject the artist is particularly interested in , I think one of yours Fiona is wild rugged countryside.

Wow! This is an excellent painting Dixie!

A watercolour painting of London docks circa 1963. 36x24cm 310 gm watercolour paper. Inspired by several photos of London when the docks were the busiest in the world. I have made a few changes to the original photos mostly in the background. I had a lot of encouragement from the original sketch to the finish painting from my friend Denise, who I dedicate this painting to.

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
