A superb painting Alan I do like the pallet you have used .

Thanks Paul… the brickwork on these buildings is pretty much tainted with decades of foul belching coal fire smoke! Hence my colour palette .

This really captures ‘The Potteries’, Alan and the colours you have used are perfect - great subject.

This is great Alan, I love those deep shadows. Such a shame that so much of our industrial heritage has been destroyed.

This is great Alan, super use of colour and washes. I love these old kilns, there is still one standing and protected in Fulham in London and very near wto where I grew up.

Love the colour and shadow - and the drawing is spot on!

Marvellous colour combinations.

Great ink and watercolour sketch, Alan, lovely colours.

Thanks guys , appreciated! It’s only two colours, burnt sienna and indigo!

A very strong painting Alan with those lovely dark shadows.

Lovely work, Alan, like it a lot.

Beautifully done.

Love this! I love industrial architecture and I like the way you have balanced the detail against the lack of detail..if that makes any sense!!

Yes Sarah it does! It’s so easy to commit to adding every brick… it just doesn’t work!

Super shapes and such a great medium, which emphasises the age and beauty of these industrial artefacts, Alan.

Super piece of work Alan. I like the use of pen and the colour range, both of which suit the industrial subject. That kiln is smashing!

There is nothing quite like a walk in kiln! Gorgeous colours!

Cheers guys… one of these kilns in Stoke has been converted into a restaurant! I’ve been just once and they’re huge inside.

I really like the ink effects Alan, the colours are beautiful too.

I like the colour palette too, very effective.

Beautiful tribute to this kiln!

I know we can't preserve everything, but the more we destroy the more we lose contact with our industrial past - I see those great chimneys coming down, and with all respect to Fred Dibnah, I regret their wholesale destruction. I can even get nostalgic about a gasometer, mind.... some things do have to go. This is a splendid, warm painting in the now-renowned A.B. style: there's nothing like a bit of honest industrial muck!

Reminds me of the TV programme. Beautiful use of colours and brushwork.

Really interesting especially for someone who has never seen these. Great colours and marks.

My favourite colours. Perfect for depicting that atmosphere

Beautifully done!

Most of these iconic shaped pot kilns have disappeared over the years, but there are a few still remaining. This one has been preserved (grade 11 listed), and has been a working industrial heritage museum for some years now. Indian ink and rigger brush with watercolour on Fabriano 300lb paper, 7.5 x11in
