Beautiful contrast Alan with superb organisation of elements wonderful composition yes and as you say such an artistic paradise.

Love how my eye is lead from the buildings around the painting to the distant trees Alan, I love the tree shadow on the house roof, brilliant!

Dennis has said it Alan. I agree with you I too like to see the structure of winter trees. You hold the viewers eye well in this piece with the arrangement of the buildings.

Lovely palette Alan, as always.

This looks wonderful Alan, I like the little touches of bright colour, very fine work!

This is beautiful Alan - love the strong colours.

Just looks perfect to me Alan, I love the bare trees, that gorgeous russet colour seems to reflect sunlight, your shadows are great and the distance trees fading away, what more can I say, brilliant 😀

This works well, Alan. Nice combination of warm/cool colours again

A timeless evocation of England that puts me in mind of Rowland Hilder. It's a shame the man known as the Turner of his generation, and who influenced so many through his books, seems to have slipped from the public mind. Great stuff.

Another beauty Alan. I can see why snow scenes are a favourite.

Scenes such as this and the way you have expressed them are among my favourites of yours Alan. Fabulous use of all mediums.

Superb - not much more to be said, it's all been said by others.

I agree with the others, nothing to add, but I prefer to say something rather than an anonymous 'like'. Great work, Alan.

Just beautiful, Alan. I can’t think of anything that hasn’t been said already.

Just terrific, Alan! Love those striking contrasts and the far trees behind that raking light. Brilliant, that man!

Even by your high standards, this is a cracker Alan!

Very effective painting - love the strong colours in the foreground and the handling of the distance trees.

Super painting, Alan.

Missed this beautiful scene, Alan. Great atmosphere of silent snow scene.

Love it Alan, the dark foreground with the distant trees fading in the distance set the painting off

Love this Alan the darks and lights are great with lovely balance 👍🏻

It has got that wonderful frozen in time feeling which is very conforting. I love it Alan.

That's lovely of you all, thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

Lovely painting Alan with wonderful light and autumn/winter colours. I agree with Carole who spotted the tree shadows on the snowy roof, and these are the little extras so well observed which make a painting reach that next stage. I really like the way you’ve painted the trees on the distant hillside also. A very pleasing painting to look at.

Instantly recognisable brilliant style Alan. Love your work.

18 x 24cm mixed media on Strathmore Toned Gray paper. Continuing with my current series, I completed this in the studio yesterday, with reference from a series of charcoal sketches drawn around the area a couple of days ago. No, it wasn’t snowing, that would have been rather nice, but I fancied working on another snow scene – they are a definite favourite of mine. The Blackhills are situated in the grounds of Sandon Estate, on a high elevation as you can see, and stretch for many acres. There are numerous little farm buildings and interesting old barn structures scattered around, enough to keep any artist interested if you like landscape painting. A bit of artist’s licence of course, the trees are still largely in leaf, but I couldn’t resist drawing in a bit of fine tracery with my rigger, so much more interesting to see the tree form, and I just love drawing winter trees. Usual selection consisting mainly of acrylic ink, watercolour, carbon pencil and a touch of soft pastel.
