It's beautiful in every way.

An effective painting and I can understand your fascination with the reeds. However, it is the background that stands out for me, not literally but as an aspect of the painting. It would be interesting to know how you decided on this treament.

Thank you Diane and William. William, the background treatment came as a bit of a happy accident. The reference I was working with had a clear/no features sky. I wanted to draw attention to some of the top section reeds with "light against dark" treatments to bring out the lighter stems, so I added some darker sections. This then led me to flow the darker background colour in a diagonal from top to bottom to give a cohesive look. While rinsing my brush, I drop of water landed on my freshly painted darker sections and immediately spread out the colour, causing a light halo. I actually quite liked it and decided to add some more in the background, creating a type of "bokeh" effect. I thought it added some interest and depth to the painting.
