Lovely portrait Heather

Great portrait, Heather!

What a cracking portrait Heather, great detail. Super gallery.

Great portrait, Heather, full of character.

I would not normally look at portraits but you very kindly commented on my impressionist landscapes so I was pleased to find your portraits. I am a fan of Baroque e.g Carravagio who was master at blending oils in skin tones. And his eyes are so alive. Dare I say it but to me Renoir's eyes are dead. But then he was an Impressionist. Your eyes are very good. As are your skin tones. Do you use a green under wash in the skin shadows? This was very common with the Baroque painters. The other striking thing is that you are using acrylic. The whole gallery is very professional.

Thank you Alan, I really appreciate you taking time out to look at my gallery. Am really only starting on my painting journey as am quite slow at what I do. Largely self taught but I go to a painting class once a week. Have only ever really used acrylics (maybe a bit of watercolour in the past and found it was not really for me). Haven't as yet tried oils but I guess it's a natural progression. Basically what I do - and I think I just do it instinctively is to layer and layer and layer skin tones blending about 3 or 4 base colours and also using my fingers a lot. Whilst I don't use green, I tend to underpaint with a lot warmer tones (often blueish/purple actually) and then get paler or warmer as it goes. I really like doing eyes and often leave these to last but am just doing another portrait where I've started with the eyes; a bit disconcerting as I feel I'm being looked at whilst I paint! I really want to get looser in my style but get drawn into detail. I also want to start painting dark on dark and apart from the portrait I'm doing now am going to do this after. Long and the short of it is I love peoples faces so I guess we're all different!

This is really good. very stroing featires

This is really well done and I really like how you’ve painted the background out of focus to really draw you into the face.

Wow! The amount of details makes it look like a photo! Well done Heather.

What a brilliant painting! I can’t believe you’ve not been painting for that long, Heather!

Lovely portrait Heather, details are amazing.

Heather, you are an amazing artist, i love the detail in your work.

Such a lovely portrait. The attention to detail is phenomenal!

Excellent....👍👍

Awesome work . Great depth... hair is so good!!!

Amazing. I went onto your site and am simply amazed. This is so human, so expressive. The way you have brought out the skin colour below his stubble is unbelievable. I just cant get the eyes right, be it for animal or human drawings !

Love your painting Heather and you are obviously a natural when it comes to catching a likeness. Have you thought about applying for Portrait artist of the Year? Don’t become too loose in your painting as I just love the detail you put in as you catch the emotion by doing so.

Beautiful portrait, such detail, colour... So realistic...

Immaculate detail
