Galloway Hills by Fiona Phipps

And what a wonderfully natural range of colours you have achieved with your 3 primaries and white! Just goes to show we don’t need a crazy selection of tubes. Fab painting Fiona. I love the rugged landscape.

Totally agree. But I'm not one to set myself too hard a challenge. I hope for chance inspiration. And lucky errors.

That is beautiful!!

This is impressive, your study is producing great results.

What a great result Fiona, it's something I would like to try . Its easy to get lazy with go to colours.

Oh Fiona you are an oil painter for sure. Those colours sing.

Looks good, like the thickness of paint.

Awesome Fiona! I love everything about this- It says so much.

This is really good Fiona, well done.

I agree with all the comments, a special painting !

Love this painting, the simplicity, the beautiful selection of colours, and the lively brush strokes.

Lovely style to this, well done.

Those colours are just right for the scene. I look forward to seeing your oils Fiona.

Beautifully painted!

Yes, the three primary colours and white certainly have proved effective for this landscape scene Fiona! Lovely contrast with the hills in grey and nice brush-strokes too has expressed a wonderful scene with the pastures of gold highlights and lush green!

Wondering mood and atmosphere and beautifully painted Fiona.

Harmonious palette and bold mark making. Love this

Yes, I agree with Tessa, love the brushwork too

Nice work Fiona, a good range of colours achieved from your limited palette. I’ve almost completed my first oil for quite a while using the same formula…

A great exercise to use 3 primary colours plus white with such a natural result Fiona. Must try it sometime. A tranquil scene in which to enjoy nature.

Great achievement Fiona.

Lovely work Fiona.

Thank you ever so much everyone for your encouraging and supportive comments.

Great rugged landscape Fiona, keep it up - I'm impressed with the 3 primaries and white as Tessa is.

The Galloway Hills look fabulous Fiona and even more so knowing you only used three colours plus white.

Trevor and Val….than you both very much for you interest and comments. I like the restriction of palette, I’ve never really been one for lots of different colours in any one painting, I think you lose some of the harmony. This view of the hills is from the other side of the view I overlooked Val…..not as familiar with this one.

Very impressive work, superb painting!

Many thanks Romila, very much appreciated.

This is striking, Fiona. I, too, limit my palette to three primaries plus white. Less confusion, more harmony, and I know how to remix a color/value. That's what I taught my granddaughter when you commented on my painting. I love the green and yellow, and all the wonderful, lively brush strokes. Just a super painting.

Thank you Lynne. Your comment means a lot to me, I’m grateful for your support.

Fiona I am very impressed by this wonderful oil. It really shows how all your study has worked. It really is a great painting.

Carol thank you. You are always so generous in your comments. x

Beautiful landscape, Fiona!

Many thanks Cesare.

12”x9” oil on canvas. For the past 10 months I’ve been attempting to improve my oil technique. I am taking classes with a new tutor and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The challenge of using only 3 primaries + white took a few goes but I like the simplicity of it.
