I would love your honest opinion on this Alan, if you get to see it. I think I should have done the top sail darker or a different colour to stand out a bit more from the cloud and I've maybe done the figures too small. Really enjoyed it though, thank you.

Nice rendition of Alan's demo Fiona. best, Mick.

I love it ,, perfect,,, you are fantastic ..... thank you for doing it ,,love u 2

Very nice Fiona, especially the sky.

I haven't seen Alan's original, Fiona, but for me this painting of yours stands alone as a very attractive piece of work. You really have developed a most interesting portfolio and, indeed, a style which I greatly admire.

This is lovely Fiona.

This is a great version of Alan's demo. Sure you could make the top sail stand out more and there is a miniscule difference in the size of your respective figures....but (in my humble opinion) these are completely insignificant to success of your painting. Well done.

Your self-criticisms are about right, I think, but I agree with those who don't think they detract in any way from your painting. It's very interesting to see these versions of Alan's work - as with Michael Edwards, you've got a lot of Alan, but a great deal of yourself as well, and the results bring out something different for all of you. I love this sky, and the pervading impression of light - your mix of Manganese and Ultramarine works very well, with those touches of (always beautiful) Raw Sienna. I was trying to visualize it without those horizontal shore line marks - it wouldn't have worked so well without them. I would be extremely pleased to have done this.

Thank you all so very much for your kind and supportive comments. You are all an inspiration!!

This painting caught my eye immediately. It looks just right to me.

Another lovely painting Fiona, love the sky and the darks in the boat.

I love the colours and simplicity. I particularly like the sky as it is so atmospheric.

Light yet so atmospheric. v like

Many thanks Pat, Glennis, Christine, Jon for your lovely positive feedback.

A really beautiful painting Fiona! I must have a look at Forum what this all is about. Sounds fun.

Thank you very much Satu, I hope you join in.

This has a look of the old masters to it. Wonderful billowing sky. This is a beautifully balanced piece of work.

Many thanks Thea, your feedback is always welcome.

Well, they said it all, Fiona, this is a great work. You did justice to Alan's lesson. I like it very much. :) Mia

Lovely. The colours are lovely I think. There is a kind of dreamy quality to it. I'm still to attempt this challenge. In due course!

Superb, Fiona! I think you've captured the light and the atmosphere beautifully!

This speaks for itself Fiona. I do like the wet mud; you have it just so. Regards and HNY. John

Watercolour of Alan Owen's lesson on the forum, hope you don't mind Alan. Thoroughly enjoyed this Alan and found it not too difficult, thank you for setting an easy one! Instead of Cobalt for the sky and water I used a mix of manganese blue and ultra marine, with R. sienna in the centre of the sky and U. marine & V. brown for the cloud shadows. The rest I used the same as yourself. Arches 12"x9" and Old Holland watercolours Great fun!
