What a stunning pen and wash, Fiona, and with a story!!!! Love it!

Superb sketch, Fiona, & thanks for the history lesson.

Lovely work Fiona and interesting story.

You've given those ruins an eerie atmosphere despite the backdrop of a lovely blue sky. Great pen and wash and great story to go with it Fiona.

oooo spooky...lovely work Fiona :)

lovely story and lovely picture love the stone work and texture throughout .I also like the mark making and the wash look at that sky Fiona excellent work

Really like the way the strength of the gate posts pushes Bach the blueness of the castle ruins Fiona, great pen work as always and a great background narrative to go with it, you know me I love to give background info to paintings, nice one.

I nearly missed this. This is so different. I really like the dominant pillars. Very intimidating. Eerie all round.

Thank you all very much for your kindness and encouragement. Wasn't too sure about leaving the gate posts unpainted but I think the whole thing would have looked over done if I had. Glad you like it and the story of poor Janet. X

Beautiful pen and wash for a different subject, Fiona. Well done as always.

A strong much more controlled piece this one Fiona.

Stunning work Fiona. Love, love the sky.

Excellent work and great atmosphere fascinating history as well ... There's no end to your talents :)

Oh er! Plenty of history in this one Fiona! I can just imagine the ghostly bride walking down the long drive at midnight. Lovely, strong pen and wash here .

Lol....thanks Sarah!

Pen & wash of this ivy covered ruin and gate pillars. The castle dates from the 16th century and was owned by the Dunbar family. The ruins are reputed to be haunted by the blood splattered bride, poor Janet Dalrymple who was an unwilling bride. Sir Walter Scott based his novel The Bride of Lammermoor, on the sad story of Janet and the unfortunate events of her wedding night. The ruins also overlook the ghostly remains of Wigtown airfield, a WW2 base. Don't have nightmares children!!!!
