A Touch of the Dreich!

Comments

A very successful experiment Fiona, you've produced an exciting abstract painting which conveys a 'dreich ' day so well and those little touches of red/pink are a master touch.

What a great result Fiona, sounds an interesting technique, will give it a go. Love your palette.

Thank you very much ladies! We’ve had a few Dreich days Val, you too I bet. It’s useful as a replacement for expensive pastel papers Sarah, with the added bonus of being able to paint a watercolour on top of the clear gesso. It takes a little longer to dry but to have that key of the texture, pastel, graphite and charcoal has a better chance of staying put.

Love the textures, it gives a lot of atmosphere. Fascinating technique, very successful x

Goodness Fiona, you do like a spot of experimenting, and very successfully here! We’ve had more than a few dreich days here as well, and I think you’ve captured the feel really well.

A most successful experiment!!

It has worked well Fiona, lovely effects.

Brilliant ,expressive,

Thanks Mick, appreciate that.

Well here's how to make 'driech' look attractive Fiona! Very good and very expressive. Just to say too; I enjoyed reading your collaboration with Alan about ink-making in techniques, really interesting.

Hi Karen, thank you for your lovely comment, and so glad you enjoyed the ink making feature. Hope it will inspire you to have a go, as I know you use inks in your art work.

Superbly dramatic and atmospheric Fiona

Thank you Brian, you are very kind.

My word Fiona you really know how to produce a true image of a typical Scottish Dreich and those splashes of pink really lift it. I have yet to read your articles about ink making but the idea sounds very appealing. Yes I did get your E-mail than you and will update you with news in due course.

Hi Carol, thank you x Let’s face it, I get plenty of practice painting Dreich days! 😂

Love the sky as there is so much going on, wonderfully atmospheric and very free marks. Love it!

Thank you very much William, you are very kind.

Wow - so atmospheric Fiona!

Thank you Shaun!

Small size experiment using clear gesso as a ground. A coat of clear gesso on watercolour paper, when dry, watercolour washes on top of the gesso, finished off with soft pastel, oil pastel and graphite. A lot of a mish, mash to see how well pastel adheres to the texture of the clear gesso….a thumbs up from me 👍
