No.6 Pit Coalburn by Fiona Phipps

It’s superb Fiona and what’s really good is seeing you posting some of your lovely artwork.

That was quick Paul! Thank you for your kind words. I’m not so busy with all my gardening duties now so should have plenty of time to get back into painting. Easing myself in with the odd scribble! Thanks again Paul.

Good one, love the colour.

Love it Fiona! And those luscious marks! Missed you - and your artwork🌻

You have scribbled it beautifully Fiona, has that gone yesterday look.

Brilliant watercolour

Hello Fiona Hope you are well - love this, it has such a atmospheric feel to it!

A super ‘scribble’ and a fascinating background story Fiona. Maybe you will paint the turbines next?!

Very atmospheric piece Fiona. Good to see you posting again.

This is wonderful Fiona.

Love how you have used the fluidity of the ink to such great effect Fiona. Super looseness and a great result.

Stephen, John, Rachel, Michael, Sarah, Tessa, Andrew, Denise, Carole, thank you all ever so much for your comments, always appreciated. Sarah, I’m very well thank you, just been very busy! Hope to get back to painting again. Tessa, if I had the inclination to paint a turbine, there are plenty to choose from! 😂

The old pit buildings are beautifully and artistically portrayed, Fiona!

Interesting one Fiona. Your own ink?

Some wonderful meaningful marks and shapes Fiona.

Really effective piece Fiona

Top class 'scribbling' Fiona. It's all there and has atmosphere.

Like this (as always)

I’m not sure if this is still in existence today, seems unlikely! Or, you’ve found reference of it somewhere in a book or magazine… you don’t say… Anyway, it matters not, keep it going now you’ve made a start, I like the concept of sepia drawing, and you’ve done a splendid job here! I’d love to see some close up pics of the pithead itself, I’d like to have a go at that myself for my current feature on drawing architecture!

You have managed to combine loose painting with great detail and the result is first class Fiona.

Fabulous watercolour gesture, Fiona, captures the abandonment & regeneration so well. Love it.

Great work Fiona. You’ve captured the industrialisation of the pits so well!

Many thanks Anne, Marjorie, (not this time Marjorie) Carole, Russell, Lewis, Heather, Alan, Shaun, Willie, Cheryl, Spencer for your lovely comments and support.

As always Fiona, simple but very effective! Lovely!

Thank you William, you are very kind. Hope you and your wife are keeping well.

Looks like you had fun.

Afternoon scribble, sepia watercolour and pen. An end to over a century of mines and miners in the Coalburn area, No.6 was closed in 1961. Unlike so many that followed, not only in Scotland but across the UK, the village of Coalburn still flourishes. This part of the southern central belt of Scotland which was dotted with small communities of mining villages, has moved form producing fossil fuels to green energy in the form of turbines.
