Grey Day!

Comments

Conveys the feeling perfectly of the weather here recently although we did have a bit of sunshine today after last nights heavy rain.

Captures the mood perfectly, Fiona, with that limited palette.

A fabulous grey day Fiona. Not often I say that about the weather!

Wow Fiona this is superb and beautifully done.

Val, Jenny, Louise, Paul thank you very much, I hope it hasn’t depressed you too much.

Looks like very wild weather there Fiona, very cold.

Love this, it exactly captures our recent weather.

It looks cold and bleak and in full swing of a harsh winter, I love the Persian red you have used, it's a lovely painting Fiona.

It's very good Fiona, you keep the gesso away from it.

Definitely a grey day and a beautiful one too!

This is lovely, love the palette

David, Lewis, Denise, George, David and Romila I’m very grateful for your lovely positive comments, thank you. Denise, it’s a deep rich red….old Holland. George, I could be tempted to get the gesso out, or, I’m not sure it’s finished?

Love this Fiona - so much potrayed with your limited palette.

Love the layered effect you have got here Fiona.

Wow, smacks of the weather we've experienced over the last week. Blustery snow captured beautifully.

If I saw that outside my window, I think I’d stay indoors Fiona!

Good title, sums up the mood!

It is a bit gloomy but you’ve captured something of the scene… not a bad effort and you’ve managed to keep it loose and devoid of detail.

Superb Fiona

You’ve captured the atmosphere perfectly, Fiona. I love it, not too gloomy at all.

Fiona, I know it's your painting but don't you dare touch it . It's great as it is. If you are not happy with it....... do another one.

Great atmosphere and brushwork in this, really good

Love this nearly mono colour Fiona, I see ice and snow.

Grey day caught very well, Fiona!

Now that IS cold, Fiona . How did you think of that perfect red ground?

I’m so pleasantly surprised by all your super comments, I very nearly didn’t post it. I’m doing a few ideas for Christmas cards…..I know, it’s a bit late! Thank you all very much. X Marjorie, one of my favourite mixes for grey is Persian red and Viridian, Thought it would hold it together a bit and then I could leave a fair part of the foreground unpainted, or just showing through here and there. Okay George, I promise I will leave well alone and put the gesso back in the cupboard! Lol

That’s a wonderful palette. I love the blue/ red shades. I haven’t tried your suggested grey mix it really like it. It looked like that here today with snow showers. Very atmospheric

Thank you very much Diana. I, feel it’s the only good thing about Viridian, it makes lovely greys. Mix it with Persian red, Alizarin, ultra marine just to name a few…..with varying amounts of white of course.

This is superb Fiona - I love the way you've captured the feeling of wet and cold! Feel I’m in it!

Rachel thank you……you know all about being in the wet and cold…..when you paint!

Nice greys, great texture, nice Fiona 👍

Maureen and Geoffrey, thank you both for your positive comments, much appreciated.

Like this.. there's a rawness about it

16”x14” oil on paper. I wanted to try and get atmosphere rather than detail and colour in this ……perhaps a feel of the recent weather. I started with a ground of Persian red on the paper and all the greys and dark areas were mixed from P. Red and Viridian + varying amounts of white. A bit of ultra m for the far shrubbery stuff. It’s turned out a bit gloomy…where’s the gesso!
