this is a lovely drawing :-) clever use of bamboo too :-) i like all the texture and how you have captured perfectly the tree growing out of the rock :-)

This is elegant work. Very effective. Again another for that black frame I mentioned!

A lovely drawing, Fiona; nearly as lovely as your welcome home message......which made being away seem all the more worthwhile!

Nice drawing Fiona, black ink on white paper gives a very powerful image.

In spite of the subject being a tough old gorse, your drawing is so elegant, Fiona. Love the simplicity and the story it tells of the resistance of gorse to whatever seems to be thrown at it.

This is lovely, Fiona, your pen and ink drawings have a special quality which I like very much.

Thank you very much Rebecca, lovely to see you back. Gudrun, I must stock up on black frames, great idea and thank you.

Lionel, a very warm thank you and I hope we will be seeing something from you soon. X

Thank you Stephen, you're very kind. Do you know if scanning the image knocks back some of th crispness of the white paper, it seems to have lost that whiteness some how? Many thank Jane for yor lovely comment, you will have much the same kind of thing where you are, it's amazing how they manage to survive.

Very grateful for your generous comment Ruth, really appreciate it.

A very good ink drawing here Fiona! You have so well captured the lonelines of that single tree fighting the elements.

Yes, Fiona, I love that wind-shaped look that trees and bushes have on the coast. I find I have to give photos of my work a little tweak in photo processing until the whites look white, it is only a tiny adjustment but doing that also seems to make all the colours look more like the actual work

Elegant and dramatic. Great use of ink and the bamboo. I have only managed an proper pen so far as haven't dared branch out into other tools. However, you have used these to great effect and produced a lovely painting.

You have certainly been showing your versatlity over recent weeks Fiona. This appears so delicate and yet as you say in your note the trees and plants that do survive must be very hardy. Pen & ink seems to be the ideal medium for this scene.

Love pen and ink so this gets a big tick from me Fiona!!

Satu, Jenny, Thea, Carol, Debs, thank you all for your continued encouragement, much appreciated. Jenny I'll try your tip thank you.

I agree more than a 100% with the above comments, Fiona. This is really, really stunning. Very, very well done.

Mia you have made my week!!!!! Coming from the Queen of the ink pen, it's praise indeed.....many, many thanks.

Great study Fiona - so simple and so effective

Thank you very much Michael, lovely to see you back.

I love this Fiona, it is so elegant.

Thank you Glennis, much appreciated.

Reminds me of the one and only tree we saw on Tiree. It was in the manse garden and the prevailing winds had chopped it off at the height of the garden wall. I felt quite sorry for it :) Another eyecatching pen and ink drawing Fiona, I especially like the way you depict the rocks.

Hi Val, yes they have a bit of character about them don't they, the tree's on the west coast or Islands. Thank you fo stopping by Val.

Really love this one, Fiona! The linework is superb and the composition really works. Fab!

This is my favourite in your gallery. beautiful.

I'm very grateful for your lovely comments Seok and Sarah, I beginning to quite like the simplicity of the ink sketch.

Along the shores of Loch Assynt there are area's of rocky outcrops, where, if they are lucky, the seeds of tree's and plants manage to get a foot hold in a crack. Their roots can have next to nothing to rely on for support but they endure the winds and rain and reach maturiy. Not without the scars of the weather, as with this one.....you can tell which way the wind blows!! Done in waterproof ink with a bit of bamboo and dip pen. Jackson's rough paper 12"x16".
