Soaring Gulls

Comments

This is great, Fiona. I knew it was yours when I could only see the top of it. I love the gap in the distant dark trees on the right and the foreground on both sides but especially the subtle browns on the right. You should teach a masterclass on "scratchy bits."

Love this Fiona.

Another beauty...and all those gulls, so well done.

This is beautiful Fiona!!

I've only just scrolled down to your description and question. I think the gulls are strong enough. The only problem I have is that, when I click on your post to see it better, I can't see the whole painting at once. In the thumbnail the gulls are, of course, very small but that's right. In conclusion, the whole painting is really good.

I've just clicked back to the thumbnail in the gallery: spot-on in my opinion.

I think they're the slightly smaller and daintier gulls. Black headed, maybe; not the big bruiser herring gulls.

Maybe the odd one strengthened - I love how you've done the sun Fiona.

This is super, Fiona. There is so much depth in it and the gulls in the distance add to that. Great colours too!

The gulls give it all life Fiona. Nice.

Roger thank you for your comprehensive thoughts. They were quite high up but I think there was a mix of gulls, some were larger, not close enough to identify individually. Glad you like it, and I’ll let you know when I set up the “scratchy bits” workshop. Thank very much Denise, Lewis and Audrey for your kind comments. Marjorie, thanks very much. I think I will add a few darker gulls.

Mia and Jim appreciate your feedback, thank you.

Fabulous looseness about this painting Fiona, love the foreground fauna.

The ‘soaring gulls’ are just about okay, yes pick a few out and strengthen them a touch. Rather good layered transparent washes and the dark area on the left helps it tonally.

I think this is lovely again Fiona and I would agree about picking a few hills out. I like how you have observed the flight patterns and positions of the wings etc.!

Terrific watercolour Fiona.

Lovely, Fiona. Like Roger I do like your foregrounds. Do re-post when you have added the few darker gulls, I think that will just top it off.

Thank you very much Stevan, I always get stuck with how to deal with foregrounds. Lol....alright Alan, I will change the title.....and strengthen up a few of the soaring gulls. X Thanks very much Sarah, appreciate your advice and comment. Thanks George! Will do Sandra, and thank you.

Lovely, Fiona - and I can almost hear the gulls!

Stunning, love the colours

Oh yes they stand out, they're beautiful!

This is beautiful Fiona! Could watch the gulls flying for ages.

Lovely, has such a wonderful feel to it

Despite the bold foreground detail, which I really like, Fiona, the gulls are what draw the eye in this, together with that lovely patch of yellow in the sky.

A great use of Horizontal and vertical lines, keeping the attention in the painting. A great example of how less can be more. The verticals draw the eye upwards towards the sky and the flock of gulls.

Marvellous sky and gulls, love the sunlight trying to read through

Really like the colours and feel of this painting Fiona and the gulls too.

Very atmospheric, Fiona.

Thank you everyone for your constructive advice and comments....I’ve darkened up a few of the gulls and yes, much better. I can’t replace this image with the new one, it won’t let me, I don’t want to take up a space on the gallery page. Thanks again.

Lovely painting Fiona, the addition of those gulls really gives it atmosphere 👍🤗

Thank you very much Linda.

Thank you very much Judith.

Watercolour in Saunders watercolour sketchbook 12”x12” Looking out at the weak sun breaking through the grey clouds this morning, I noticed a flock of seagulls swirling around and around, climbing higher in the sky. I was mesmerised by their acrobatics. Have I been a bit light handed with the strength of the gulls, do they stand out enough?
