Indulgence on a Wet Afternoon.

Comments

I like this a lot Fiona - very wintry.

Thank you Margaret. Have you been blessed with Waxwings on the east this winter?

Oh that's beautiful Fiona or they might have left them to grew more

Has a really wintry feel to it Fiona.

That's the thing about being an artist - even when you're going through a fallow period, you still notice things to which others may be oblivious.

Great Winter sky Fiona, nice palette.

Have kept on seeing messages about Waxwing sightings in Edinburgh but as (a) first I had a lurgie and (b) am now having to catch up with Christmas stuff, haven't managed to go looking for any! However, we did have a nice Mistle Thrush in our garden one day, and have also had at least one male Bullfinch as well as lots of goldfinches.

Lovely work Fiona proper wintery

Dennis, Tessa, Robert, Carole, Dennis many thanks to you all for your lovely comments. Margaret, there is still plenty of time to catch a glimpse of one or two I hope. I’ve never seen any this far west, not here in the south anyway, use to see them in Ullapool when I lived up that way. Saw the first Goldcrests in the garden this year, three...I was thrilled. Stood watching them with the binoculars for over an hour feeding in a small copse of willows, I was freezing and it was almost dark before they left.

This is so good Fiona. It is a a painting to sit and enjoy over and over again. Just lovely! Merry Christmas to you and yours and happy painting in the year ahead.

Really well captured atmosphere Fiona, attractive and competent painting.

I like the colour choice you have used here Fiona.

Lovely fresh watercolour, Fiona.

Jennifer thank you very much for those kind words. Merry Christmas to you! Many thanks Alan and Paul for your lovely comments Mia, Merry Christmas and thank you for all your lovely comments. Yoko, Sylvia, Lewis, Sandra very grateful for your kind comments. Diana, thank you very much for your wonderful feedback about the wet in wet washes. I just sloshed some water over the paper in all directions, then dipped the brush in the nearest paints in my box.....let it dry and made something up!

Heather, Emma, John, Cesare thank you ever so much for commenting, appreciated.

Lovely wintry scene, Fiona - you’re really good at these spontaneous washes! Like the colours, especially the foreground blue

The carol " In the bleak mid winter" comes to mind Fiona. Lovely work.

Thank you Jenny! If I don’t try too hard and just play, I seem to get better results. Many thanks Val, that happens to be my favourite carol, perhaps a subconscious decision!

Very wintry with the distant hills and good foreground with the blue.

Very atmospheric Fiona. I love the touches of blue

Richard, Dorothea....thank you both very much for your kind comments.

Such a beautiful painting Fiona.

Love that great expanse of sky reflecting a great sense of space and freedom Fiona.

Many thanks for your comments Jacqueline and Carole, very much appreciated

Love how the branches give a sense of the loneliness of winter snow, and with more to come from a huge snow filled sky.. brrrrrrr.

Robert , thank you very much for your observations.

12”x10 watercolour and ink on Waterford paper. I noticed the other day, that the Fieldfares have almost stripped the Hawthorn trees....just a few red jewels left for the next flight of birds.
