This is wonderful Paul and it brought back memories of a community I was brought up in as a Child. We had a corner shop just like that called Bates's.

Thank you Denise , it was worth all the fiddling and changes to know it has brought back memories for you .

It’s well constructed Paul. I notice the chimneys smoking away in the distance.

Open all hours eh? Nice one Paul. My corner newsagent was run by Mr Simmonds and I was sent up daily for twenty Kensitas for my mum. Child abuse these days.

Love it - full of memories and you should do more Paul

Ah, I love these kinds of shop scenes, you did such a great job!

John, Andrew , Heather and Tanja thank you for the kind comments. I think most people over fifty can recall such shop think we become nostalgic for the scenes as we get older. Heather I have a few more ideas based on old city scenes like this .

Lovely painting Paul. I am glad I can remember such tines. I like the Brasso advert - I used to love cleaning my mums horse brasses!

Beautifully painted Paul. So many memories being recalled is a good thing.

Instant nostalgia Paul, fabulous painting.

Superb artwork Paul, amazing detail.

Some interesting bits of detail in among this painting, great job Paul…

This is so much part of every day life Paul and a great job ion all that signage.

Thank you everyone for the very kind comments, I appreciate them ,particularly as this was my first attempt a such a large complex piece.

Aw... those wonderful corner shops and this is so typical - delightful, Paul!

Thank you Anne and Valerie I appreciated your comments . Most of us can remember these fabulous old shops ,not matter which town , city, north or south they all had little shops like this that keep folk going from pay day to pay, many usual had a book / slate for tick in the run up to payday .

I’m late commenting Paul but I do like this. Do more! It certainly brings back memories for me too, nice memories of a different world.

Thank you Marjorie for you kind comment, I will be doing some more in fact I have one on the easel at the moment.

Thank you Michael I appreciate your comment.

What a statement shop, Paul. Love the red masonry but its all so expressive of times gone.

Thank you Willi , yes set in times gone by ,however there are still streets of these old building still to be seen in some cities. Hopefully the same community spirit still live on .

Those were the days Paul, I would rather go back there than be here, in this time. Our village corner shop was called Pickwells, it didn’t sell hardware but most of everything else consumable.

Thanks Fiona , we never gave it much thought at the time and I suppose we assumed it would just continue to be the same , now we look back with a longing in our hearts.

You've got some patience to do all those bricks, and it's a charming result. I used to deliver groceries for our corner shop, in a wooden handcart ! Wages = 2/6 a week and a bag of sweets !

Thank you David , next time I do one I shall ad a young lad delivering the groceries in a hand cart , thank you for sharing your memories.

Lovely work, Paul!

Very nicely done, love the composition

A4 in A3 mount , watercolour painting of a corner shop loosely based on my sisters shop in the 1970s in Leeds . The tower I moved from another part of Leeds to make this imaginary scene, it was the chimney of Tower Works where I started my engineering apprenticeship. Pen and watercolour. I’ve never done one this large or complex before, will definitely try more ad I learned so much from this one .
