The Gatekeepers Cottage

Comments

Just realised that it is still on the mount, sorry for my careless posting .

This is beautiful, I love the brickwork in particular.

Lovely painting Paul ☺

Beautifully understated Paul, a scene of winter light and mists.

Good one Paul

Lovely Winter scene Paul.

Thank you Carrie, Faye, Fiona and Heather , the brick work is quite unique to parts of Buckinghamshire , the bricks form the frame and the panels are made up of flint and cement. I think it’s called cob, a friend at work , husband specialised in this type of building and repairs , never wax out of work. It does look so nice on the building especially in the old villages , where schools etc are built the same way.

Sorry I missed you off the above, we were typing at the same time Carole, thank you for your comment.

Beautiful Paul. Smashing for a 15 minute sketch.

It’s got bags of atmosphere Paul, lovely quick sketch.

Such an interesting building and very atmospheric, well done, Paul!

Love your limited palette Paul and it has worked out as a very atmospheric winter scene.

You kind comment are appreciated, Denise, Alan, and Carole. I enjoy doing these quick sketch Alan, no pressure and what happens , happens, some disasters at times , but non the less fun.

Excellent composition in such a short time Paul you have created A very atmospheric piece of work.

Thank you for taking the time to comment Chris it’s much appreciated.

Great sketch, Dixie. I've seen many a gatekeeper's cottage like this...they often look too grand for the term 'cottage.' (I often use the back of an old painting.)

Thank you Lew , yes some of the cottages or gate lodge are so beautifully built. I think we come fro the same generation, born in the forties and learned to use everything we had , because there wasn’t much about , ( swing the lights and pull up a sand bag , cue violin) either that or it my Yorkshire genes .

I like the subtle colours in this one Paul. It always interests me to see how well our 'quick' sketches work out. Your sketch is a good one :)

Thanks Louise for your comment it appreciated. I'm also interested and love to see how quick sketch turn out , I think because we work so quickly we don fret over it to much , this has a positive effect.

The muted reds and greens are subtle and work really well together well done

Thank you Moira for your comment it is appreciated.

A4 watercolour, used the back of an old painting and the paint leftovers, to do this 15 minute sketch . It was a fun thing with no thought to the outcome , it is based on the cottages at Hughenden Manor .
