Big sea little Ship

Comments

That's what I like to see, an old tramp steamer and a heavy sea.

Excellent, Paul - you really show the ship braving those dramatic seas!

Another excellent watercolour Paul. Those big waves look great.

Thank you Lew, Anne and Denise for you very king comment. Lew intend to think of these old ships as real ships if you know what I mean . Today ships seem to be moving containers , with little character to them, frightening when some can carry 20,000 containers or more.

I get a real sense of storm and movement, good one Paul

Thank you Heather for your kind comment. Having just looked again I’ve noticed I forgot the very dark smoke coming from the funnel it was a feature in my thoughts , hells bells .

Wow, some energy there Paul, love this beautiful ship.

"Butting through the Channel on the mad March days." Lovely nostalgic seascape Paul. Nice work.

Wonderful stormy sea, shows just how powerful the sea is tossing the tramp steamer around. Lovely painting Paul.

Wow, that is beautiful! Such power in those waves, and you’ve portrayed the spray marvellously.

Love how you’ve painted this Paul, especially the waves and how the ship dips.

Many thank your your kind comments Carole, Jim, David, Anthony and Carole. As you can probably guess from my gallery I love old ships and have wanted to do a scene of an old steam freighter in rough seas for a long time . It was finding the right ship and risking getting the waves right , in the end the ship was adapted from a photo of a pristine vessel in a harbour . I’m pleased with it and very pleased with the response. Have another in mind now.

That’s a hell of a swell Paul, good job your ship is strong and sturdy for the task. Excellent.

Thanks Fiona for you comment, I does look a tad rough out there . I love painting ships but unfortunately get terrible sea sick even on a duck pond .

Lovely painting Paul, reminds of the day I went round Lizard Point Cornwall in my sons ex RNLI lifeboat in conditions similar to your painting. Very exciting and your painting portrays this.

Fabulous painting Paul in every way. I am sorry you are struggling to hold the brushes at the moment but it definitely has not affected the quality of the painting.

You’ve really captured the atmosphere and drama here Paul, excellent!

Thank you for your kind comments, Chris, Diane and Alan. My hands should settle down soon Diane, unfortunately it one of those problems with arthritis it flares up occasionally unfortunately Im unable to take the best medication to ease the pain and inflammation, so it’s a case of plod on .

Watercolour of a old steam cargo ship in a rough sea . Made up scene , modern ships are so big in comparison to older steam ships , I admire the crews and the engineers who worked and built these vessels. Some were lost to the wild seas other took a pounding but managed to get through. Painted this in a more loose style for me as I’m having problems hold the brushes at the moment .
