Do not be so hard on yourself, Paul - it is a delightful painting and full of interest! I like your bold colours, too!

Nice piece Paul, I too like the bright colours against that moody sky.

This is really good Paul.

The bold colours tell part of the story, as they are 'designed' to be readily visible in that environment, so you've done absolutely right to have them bold. It's a vibrant, energetic painting, Paul, and you should be pleased. The detail is fine, too, because as you well know there needs to be room for the viewer to imagine more detail, thereby interacting with the painting. Glad you had fun.

David, Andrew, Stephen and Gerry thank you for your kind and much appreciated comments. I hadn’t though of the bold colours being part of the story but you are correct Gerry .

I think it's great Paul, and I shouldn't worry about the lack of detail on the faces, in fact I think that's the way I would go anyway. Love the colours and the great sky

A great achievement Paul .

Looks fine to me Dixie and I do like the way you’ve painted the waves-really good.

It's a good piece of painting Paul, well done.

Thank you Alan, Trevor,Chris , Tessa and George I appreciate your comments. Tessa I was a bit concerned that I might have over done the waves with that strong green pigment.

Just caught up, really like your colours here against that moody sky, love the waves, the figures work for me.

Thank you Sandra for your kind and appreciated comment. I starting to be less concerned about the waves , I think it’s having used such a strong colour it sort of slaps you in the face ,no hiding from it .

Yes, don't be so hard on yourself, it's a very nice painting and the detail on the faces are more than OK and you wouldn't want any more.

You’ve captured the atmosphere well here Paul, love those waves. Small faces are hard to do. I must admit that I can’t be messing with very small brushes these days and would be very tempted to leave them blank, there are far more important parts of your painting to focus on. This is lovely work, well done.

I loke the bold colours Paul, lovely job.

Like.

Oh Paul…I don’t “do” bots…I throw up just looking at them. But yours looks lovely,, forgive me if I don’t ask for a ride.

It’s the colours I really like here Paul. Not your usual? I’d say do more!

I agree its a lovely painting, always love your colours !!

I like your bold colours. You shouldn't worry about altitude fever - this is great.

Thank you all for your most kind comments, it very encouraging and I’m tempted to use bold colours again when the subject allows.

That where we lean outside of our comfort zone Paul, and the colours are good.👍

Thanks John , yes we certainly do learn more when under pressure and working outside the comfort zone.

It is a delightful painting, good job!

A4 watercolour of a Yorkshire Coble fishing off Staiths and Runswick Bay on a stormy evening. I don’t usually paint in such bold colours but though what the hell give it a go , so far from my comfort zone I had altitude fever . Unfortunately by doing the boat so big it’s highlighted my inability to do the detailing anymore, hence the odd looking faces . Still it was a bit of fun and not done to seriously, but somewhat stressful.

About the Artist

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
