Oh not another elephant.

That is a great painting. Love the subtle tones .

You paint them so well Paul. Super. Interesting information.

Oh Yes ,another very good one. Good colours.

Really good and I enjoyed reading the back story too

Many thanks David ,Denise,Richard and Heather for you very kind comments. I chose to paint a tusker , or as they are sometimes called a giant tusker, sadly now in decline as for some reason the gene is not been past on anymore or very rarely. Several of the last surviving tusker have died in the last decade unfortunately not having produced offspring with the gene. Soon to disappear for ever unless the reason is found and can be corrected.

And a very good too Paul.

Thank you Chris for you comment it’s much appreciated.

You can never have too many Elephants Paul! He’s looking a little menacing, or curious. I like the stronger washes you’ve used in areas around the painting to give depth.

I love how well camouflaged he is, as that is what I remember on my first encounter with the wildlife in their own habitat: they just blend in the surroundings. Excellent details. I very much enjoyed this painting.

Fiona and Katarina thank you for your kind comments, it’s seems that when they are concerned or fearful they take this stance to threaten whatever is causing the concern . The colours are due to the elephants dusting themselves with soil or clay to cool down , I think Katarina this has the effect the taking on the colours of their surroundings so yes it looks like camouflage.

Thank you for your kind comment Michael.

Don’t tire of elephants Paul, they are wonderful creatures, this one is delicately and beautifully done.

Oh wow: he is a cracker. Absolutely gorgeous.

Many thank Carole and Carrie for your kind comments as always the are very much appreciated. I don’t think I will get tired of painting then Carole , there are so many different settings and poses , strangely I find it quit relaxing drawing g and painting them an added bonus.

Super elephant Paul, I’ve never met a wild one put the pose does look just right. The foreground is very good too.

And it's a very good one, Paul - I like your subtle tones!

Thank you Katy, Romila and Anne for your kind comments. Anne I was trying to portray the size and power just using very light sort colour and I’m pleased with the outcome.

Love the unusual palette which adds to a wonderfully fresh take of the subject. Beautifully done.

I don't know how I missed this. Another excellent painting, Dixie.

Thank you Seok and Lew for your very nice comments they are much appreciated.

A 30x36 cm watercolour on 300gsm paper, this is the biggest painting I have done of an animal to date. Spent a few hours looking a photos of stressed or angry elephants so that I could get the ears extended correctly. Apparently they extend their ears outward and keep them still whilst holding up their heads , to make themselves look bigger . They also hold the tails out straight and ridged , no way would I go to see if it was .
