Great sketch, Brian. I immediately thought it had a slightly 'otherworld' look, so I'm glad it has some folklore attached to it. I look forward to the larger version, although this is just grand as it stands.

You've captured the sense of mystery very well, Brian - expertly painted, too...

Mysterious and intriguing Brian I found myself searching for the pixies and faerie folk :)

Thank you very much, Lew, Jan and Val, for the generous comments. Always a pleasure. I pass this pond virtually every day on my daily constitutional, always stopping for a look around the place. A few days ago I spotted a couple a mallards in the shadows but haven't seem them since. Perhaps they felt invigorated and simply flew off. *smile* Delighted the "otherworldly look" came across. Bri

I can't see how you could better this Brian. It's just the kind of thing I like.

Looks much more than a sketch Brian which bodes well for a larger painting. You have certainly created a feeling of mystery and magic it must be a very special place.

Thank you very much, Marjorie and Barry, for the kind comments. Appreciated, as always. I have two ponds in mind and this painting was a little sojourn into the woods to see how things would go. I particularly wanted to mess about with the leaf litter to try and get something close to reality. The reflections are ok but I'll change tack with the bigger version, I think. It's a lovely place to walk, especially when it's quiet and the imagination takes control. *smile* Best to both Bri

Looks like a little more than a sketch to me Bri so it will be interesting to see the final version! As has been said you’ve captured a feeling of mystery and intrigue here.

These little pit-holes as I often refer to them hold a wealth of inspiration Brian. Something magical about them and hold an abundance of small wildlife, so very important. Lovely atmosphere so look forward to the larger version.

Thank very much, Tessa, and Alan, for the great comments. Much appreciated, as always. Yes, I reckon I took it a little further than I originally intended, Tessa, but it's given me a few ideas for the bigger versions. (I have another pond to paint) These smaller canvas boards are a pleasure to work with. The wildlife is right up there on my list of priorities, Alan, and these woodland ponds are so important, just as you say. Pleased as Punch that the mystery and intrigue is showing through and delighted it isn't only me. Best to both Bri

oil on canvas board 31 x 25 cms. On the very fringe of Oakenbank Woods, secreted in a shallow hollow, lies the mysterious and magical Pixie Pond, whose waters are said to possess the healing powers of the faerie folk. All are welcome but treat it with respect, for more than the birds and creatures of the woods are watching.
