Old Farm Buildings by Alan Bickley

Drawn this morning, I’ve not done anything new recently so hopefully I will start again on my daily routine.

Well this is a good start Alan, would make a good full painting. I like the old farm building and out buildings they have character!👌

Not a straight line in sight, but of course you still have to be aware of the basic perspective; which, utterly needless to say, you are. It's interesting to see these derelict buildings, but sad too - because you know that if they become more derelict than they already are, they'll be pulled down and replaced with something unbelievably hideous ... there, that's my drop of depression for today..

I don't know how you find all these paintable groups, Alan, but you;ve put this one down so well.

Yes, I like old broken down buildings too, they make such interesting paintings and this is a good one

Yep - great characterful sketch.

Yes a little dereliction is always appealing for drawing! Really good Alan.

Great and interesting painting.

A cracking example of your style Alan , always skilfully done it looks simple but that far from the reality as it’s not simple to get it looking this good with such few lines.

These derelict buildings make a great subject Alan. You have portrayed the deserted atmosphere so well, without fussy detail.

Making it look so easy is the hard part Alan.

Super sketch Alan.

Yes a good painting this would make Alan, and super sketch we have here.

Agree that this would make a very interesting painting.

I love this one, super pen and wash !!

Great sketch, very stylish (as usual!).

Really good Alan. When does a sketch become a painting? I would gladly accept this as a finished painting any day.

Interesting old buildings like faded flowers, always more interesting I think. Beautifully portrayed Alan.

Great example of limited palette painting.

Thanks guys much appreciated as always…

Beautifully balanced and lovely loose pen work Alan.

Like this a lot.

Masterful handling of the pen and wash technique, Alan. You’ve captured the organic, weathered character of these structures with incredible precision—especially impressive given the lack of straight lines. The tonal depth in the wash really brings out the soul of these old buildings.

I really like that dilapidated roof, makes a change from the norm.

This is an excellent start Alan. Beautiful composition and excellent tones with that hint of colour.

Random collections of buildings always interest me, the older the better, not a straight line in sight! Pen and wash in my sketchbook.
