The Burning Bush

The Burning Bush
Comments

Very interesting comment Susan. I once went to an anglican service, where the vicar said in his sermon that the bush did not really burn but it was a trick of the light. It makes you wonder if some of these 'leaders' have any sort of faith themselves!

Sadly, what you say is true & more widespread than you think. That vicar obviously didn't understand the Scriptures as one would expect him to. The bush wasn't burnt up because the "fire" was G-d Himself. Thank you for your response. I was initially wary about posting such overtly religious work, but artists of other religions display their faith-based work, so I didn't see why I shouldn't post mine. And so far, I've not had any negative response.

Fibre-tip pen; Inktense pencil; gouache; sugarcraft lustre. The book of Exodus in the Bible is the account of how the Hebrews (Israelites) migrated on mass from Egypt, escaping slavery, led by Moses to find the Promised Land. This painting is a depiction of the account of Moses being called by the G-d of Israel from within a bush that appeared to be on fire, but was not actually burning. The illuminated script in the centre of the bush is the name of G-d in Hebrew, a.k.a the Tetragrammaton, that is YHWH (means "I AM WHO I AM"), which is never spoken by Jews, because it's considered too sacred. (Instead, it's substituted by Adonai, L-RD, or HaShem - the Name.)
