(Finally finished!) 4th work on Holocaust theme. Based on a simple illustration I did in 2004 for a Jewish friend's poem (of same title). The Hebrew is selected text from the Kaddish, a prayer from the Shabbat liturgy recited when someone dies, at funerals & memorial services. The pile of stones refers to the Jewish custom of placing a stone on a grave, whenever it's visited. The faces are not ghosts. They symbolise the "lost ones," who had no family or descendants to say Kaddish for them. And the memories fading as each Holocaust survivor dies. When the last one goes, who will be left to remember? Media used: texture medium; dried plant material; gouache; oil pastel; sugarcraft lustre; craft papers.
