I was so pleased this picture popped up on the gallery home page and I was able to follow the link. Love it as I have just been trying to do waves myself.

Thank you. But truthfully, I can't yet do more realistic waves! Only abstract ones. The best tip I've come across is: study your subject. I collect photos, take photos (easy because I live on the coast), watch the sea in all its moods. And I just love the sea, even when it's in a bad mood.

One of a triptych entitled the Raging Sea. Media used: pastels, soft & oil; water-soluble wax crayon; pencils, aquarelle & ordinary; white watercolour. I've spent most of my life by the sea & I've seen it in all its moods. When the surf is up, it sounds like a roaring beast. So I tried to give this huge wave a beast-like quality.
