I really like this Robert and the setting is excellent.

Beautiful. Is that a little snail 🐌 I see near pooch? 👀

Ah lovely portrait Robert. Hope painting it brought back happy memories for you - our animals are so precious to us.

And of course, of the two photos I took, I've posted the wrong one - the actual painting is a little darker and in consequence a bit softer. But there we are, can't keep posting the same thing until I get it right, it's not too bad: and at least I've lost the blur in my pictures that I was getting before. Thanks for all comments so far.

Touching and very beautiful.

Justice indeed Robert, she looks like she was a wonderful and much missed dog.

Fine work Robert, I particularly like your handling of the foliage and grasses.

Wonderful Robert and the turned over ear, gives her real character. She looks happy in her surroundings.

Lovely ,lovely old Sal. Hopefully your memories were happy when you painted this Robert.

Hopefully happy memories of your beautiful pet, Robert. Love the energetic greenery too!

A faithful companion really sensitively painted Robert.

Faye, it's a rat: I admit it looks somewhat snail-like. Nearly all of my pictures are signed with a rat....

Thank you for the info’ on the colours you used. Old Sal looks very happy amidst the grass and trees. I admire your unfussy brushstrokes Roger.

Sorry that should have been ‘Robert’.

A beautiful picture and tribute to your lovely pet, Robert.

Lovely job done here Robert…great animal but those grasses are exceptional, both in colour and technique!

Lovely tribute to a beautiful dog.

Well done Robert.

Lovely painting Robert - I have just posted a sketch I did many years ago of our family dog who we got when I was 3 and who died when I was 17 (I must have done the drawing when she was very elderly) - always kept it.

If anyone is still looking in - this ended up being my younger brother's birthday present: Sally (also the name of this wife!) was his dog, and she protected him from anyone who dared to so much as look askance at him: she wouldn't bite, she'd just jump up at you, barking furiously, and push you away from her little boy..

Acrylic, 8" by 8", manganese blue (hue), pthalo green, Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Sepia, Cadmium yellow, Lemon yellow, underpainting black and burnt umber on raw sienna ground. It was Sylvia Evans who suggested I paint old Sal - ca. 1960 to 1979. I really couldn't face doing it until now. Hope I've done a wonderful dog justice.
