A good idea to do this sort of work Fiona. Nice bit of mix with the watercolour and oil pastel.

Nice work Fiona. Knew it was yours right away.

You did a great job here, Fiona, and with a personal touch.

That's lovely Fiona, I like the background as well with just a hint of trees, colours are great as well, lovely stuff 😀

What a fantastic use of the two mediums, Fiona. A really striking example of impressionistic painting and one that would catch the eye in any environment. The flashes of colour work a treat. I really like this one. Brian

I love John Blockley's work Fiona and collect his books, he has a special something I also admire Ann Blockley. This is lovely, just lIke his bare tree trunks. Also love the colours :)

Yep, I like it. Good colour choice and lively brush strokes :)

Thanks very much John, it was a step by step project to help my friend. I found it a bit stilted doing it that way to be honest. I think it looks a bit stiff, it that makes sense. Lol...Jim, I think it’s the dull colours! Thanks Mia, there is a lot of black ink in the original that I left out and thought the pastel would lift it a bit.

Loose, simple, good colours and effective.

Linda, thank you very much, appreciate it John, thank you, you are very kind. Me too Carole, I’ve only got a couple of his books and one of Ann’s but what talent! Thanks very much Louise! How’s the Vaughan coming along?

Thank you Richard and Sandra, very much!

Clearly a Winter scene which is very well executed.

The limited palette suits the season. Very confident brush strokes, great trees!

hi this is beautiful fantastic work xx

That's a cracker Fiona bang on

Very effective Fiona, love the colours you have used.

I like the way you have used the oil pastels to great effect with the watercolour breaking on the surface, if I am right of course. I think I would have to agree with everyone else Fiona, brilliant.

Nice foreground,I like the oil pastel effects on the trees, and foreground.Love the colours.I will tomorrow put online a painting of Ann Blockley I tried to have a go at,called Hogweed.

Good painting Fiona. The oil pastel work very well.

Michael, Ibolya, Paula, Dennis, David, Charles, Annick and Cesare....thank you all for your very kind comments, always appreciated.

Nice one Fiona....love the colours...

I love John Blockley's work, Fiona, also Ann Blockley's - we used one of his paintings as reference at an art class some while ago and enjoyed trying to emulate his style. I like the colours in this one.

Love those blue trees, Fiona.

Sylvia, Jenny, Ellen.......many thanks. I think John Blockley has many followers.

Great watercolour - love the palette and your lovely loose application Fiona

Hi Fionna, you've certainly managed to capture the kind of texture that Blockley created in his pieces. He is one of my favorite artists and he influenced other people's work that I like such as Michael Morgan. Great to read that your encouraging other people to take up the paint brush. Steve

This is rather good Fiona, I do admire JB's work and I do love the limited colours that you have chosen. PS, I'm struggling at the moment after my return!...

Thank you very much Maureen. Hi Steve, thank you for your comment ref John and for giving me the name of Michael Morgan. I like the way John used ink in his work but the atmosphere he created in his work is fabulous. Not unlike yours! Thanks Alan, I’ll drop you a line or two later. Sorry to hear you are struggling at the moment, it’s sometimes difficult to get started again after a lay off.

Thanks very much Gudrun!

I certainly like this Fiona and am amazed at your knowledge of so many different artists. I suspect that I should be looking at more art in order to improve my own meagre attempts. Lucky person to have you teaching them.

I like it, the orange balances it or it would be a bit cold, I don't really know how you did it (this loseness would look messy if I tried it) but it works great.

Many thanks Carol and David!

12”x9” watercolour and oil pastel on Jackson’s rough. A friend wanted to try watercolours for the first time and she admires John Blockleys work very much, so we had a go at one of his easier paintings. I added a bit of oil pastel to make it a bit more individual. My friend made a pretty good job for a first attempt and was very happy with the result, I hope that will make her want to try watercolour again.
