This is very nice Fiona, very contemporary, despite being "after" the Scottish Colourists, whom I like very much. The colours complement each other very well, I'm wondering if you had the subject set up in front of you. I assume you're going to have the background that cool pink shade? I look forward to seeing it finished.

It looks really promising Fiona.

Looking good,I'm sure the end result will look terrific.

Hi Marjorie, for this first exercise we had to choose a painting of one of the colourists then break it down to a small area of that painting to work on in a larger scale. This particular one is of a table covered in vases of flowers , books, plates and other pieces of fruit, with quite an abstract background. Typical for me, I chose the easiest bit.lol
Do you have a favourite Marjorie?

Thanks Satu and Andre, you have more faith in me than I do...lol!

It's looking good Fiona!

It's looking good Fiona and an interest concept to choose a part of a larger painting to work on, I feel quite excited for you and looking forward to seeing the result!

Fiona it has an oriental feel to it which I'm sure that the Scottish Colourists would not intend but I'm looking forward to seeing the final results because the colours already look zingy :)

It's still a good piece, unfinished or not Fiona, very well observed, reminds me of the great Scottish artist Samuel Peploe, excellent.

Peploe is my favourite, - still life I suppose.

Great so far. I saw some colourists the last time I was in Glasgow. My cup of tea.

This is going to be fantastic Fiona can't wait to see the finished painting. Great positive colours already.

Now wait a minute folks, you are building up your expectations and you're going to be awfully disappointed...lol!
Well done Alan, good guess! Marjorie, what a coincidence, it is based on a part of one of Peploe's paintings.

This terms lessons have been about using colour, keeping it clean, sharp and also working neutral tones around the predominant local colours. Trying to get the scale of the lights to darks as wide as possible depending on the light. Without getting 'mud'!

Thank you very much for your encouragment.....I'll do my best!

It's lovely Fiona looks promising look forward to seeing it finished.

Looks good thus far - look forward to the completed work

Thank you Dennis and Michael, very much for your comments.

... it was in the Hunterian Gallery and I don't think I'm making up the fact I may have seen your reference painting .... excellent Gallery with the Rennie MacIntosh house next door.

Gudrun, I think the painting that this small piece was taken from is called 'Roses and book'. I must remember to put the gallery you mentioned on my list for my next Glasgow visit. Thanks for the info!

Many thanks Dennis!
