This is lovely Fiona.

This is delightful Fiona, the colours are really lovely.

What wonderful subtle colours you're getting.

What a lovely thing to try Fiona, the results are lovely. I particularly like the Old Man's Beard lichen raw sienna shade.

This is so quaint Fiona. Love how you are delving into organic materials and reaping such great results.

Ace work Fiona. I remember a seeing documentary of Lucy Worsley describing how they made ink in Jane Austen's time. One of the ingredients was beer. Fascinating and a great drawing.

A really good drawing and the colours are very good. You not only an artist your turning into a chemist as well .

Making your own inks and then using them to produce work like this, that's so impressive Fiona, it's a fabulous painting.

Heavens to Betsy! You clever girl. Lovely subtle colours achieved here Fiona.

Beautifully atmospheric, Fiona. The inks you have made have a lovely subtlety to them. Something to look into.

This is brilliant Fiona. Love your wet on wet for the background and the ink work defines the subject so well.

Well impressed Fiona. The sienna shade is like a shaft of sunlight.

Very natural. It adds another dimension to the art experience. Well done you; I'm sure it was worth all the effort.

Impressive Fiona 🙂

The natural shades are beautifully subtle. What an artistically adventurous thing to do and with such great results. Good one Fiona!

Thank you all very much for your lovely comments and interest……you sound as excited about the inks as I do! 😂 Really appreciate your feedback and I hope you will take time out to read the email newsletter due to go out on 2nd November. A collaboration between Alan Bickley and myself. Thank you again!

This is beautiful Fiona, the experiment worked well, the colours are lovely

Brilliantly painted, and really fascinating texture.

This has a softness and calmness about it Fiona and I love the subtle tones in those homemade inks. Definitely up there as one of my favourites of yours.

Spencer, Cheryl, Thalia, Val…..I’m really happy that you like the inks and my example. I was worried that they would come across as insipid, and they really aren’t at all.

So creative and clever!

Absolutely love this Fiona - and the variation in your inks are beautiful- What a lovely thing to do-

Your experiments are having great results Fiona.

Anne, Rachel, Shaun, really appreciate your comments on my posting and that you like the my ink making results. Thank you.

Thank you very much Romila.

Homemade inks on Khadi paper, made up subject matter. I’ve been experimenting with foraged natural ingredients to make inks. The grey/black ink is made from Acorns, the raw sienna-ish colour is made from Old Man’s Beard Lichen and the pinky shade is made from Oak Leaf Lichen. Very satisfying.
