I have been painting since the age of seventeen but stopped in the late seventies to concentrate on raising a family and pursue my career in the city. I retired in 2012 and my daughters persuaded me to enroll in art classes and I resumed painting in watercolour, gouache and pastel in 2014. My first attempts were underwater reef scenes inspired by our frequent snorkelling trips to the Maldives. I have also done a number of pen and watercolour sketches of street scenes in the Far East. My early landscapes were wet on wet with heavy skies. I have done a series of treescapes (gouache) depicting the seasons and more recently a number of black and white paintings in gouache of the Venice canals and also street scenes in London. I am now concentrating on portraits in gouache and pastel. My work can be viewed on my Facebook profile ‘tim Bettesworth art’. I had an exhibition of my work at the Geoffrey Whitworth theatre in Crayford last February and I am exhibiting my work at the Long pond micro pub in Eltham this August.
