The Barrier!

Comments

Lovely work, Fiona. Maybe just darken the shadows on the right side of the posts. There's a lot of light reflection from the stones, adding more foreground pale might spoil it. . .?

That is beautiful. Fiona!! Just love the way you have painted the trees!

Thank you Carol for coming to my rescue! Good idea, I see what you’re getting at ref having more light in the foreground. Thanks.

Missed you there David, thanks very much…..I think I do too many trees!

I’m so impressed that you did this from memory, the bark on the trees is particularly excellent. I agree the barrier needs something, perhaps shadows would help.

Really well done Fiona, colours and detail are very good 😊

Excellent painting Fiona unmistakably your work it’s always refresh and on the loose side .

Beautiful and lovely trees 🌳 😍

Lovely work again Fiona

Super work from memory Fiona! Impressive trees full of character and movement. I agree the fence could do with a little strengthening tonally.

Andrew, Stephen, Paul, Walter, Faye, Lewis, Tessa…..thank you all for your comments and observations, I think you are correct about darkening the tones on the barrier. I will amend. When I say I did it from memory, I remember there was a barrier, a burn, lots of trees and the odd rock here and there. All the components in the painting, but not necessarily in the right place or quantity! Thanks again x

I can't advice of how to or not to improve your art further, as I like it as it is already Fiona ;) I'm impressed you did create it from memory when back home... It's sort of good training, to remember things we're looking at! Well done.

Super trees, Fiona!

What a lovely painting, I love it.

Lovely composition, Fiona, the trees are great - but agree with the others that the barrier could do with a bit more definition. It does add colour and interest, though, in the foreground.

Lovely painting. I feel like wanting to break down some of the barrier to explore. Maybe just climb over though!

Love the freedom of your brush strokes Fiona and the simplicity of your composition which is marvelous.

I agree with everyone and those trees are super good.

Fabulous mixed media from memory Fiona. Lovely scene.

I love all the texture in this. A fascinating scene.

Great trees Fiona. Lovely colours too.

The general rule is to not put a line of fences in the foreground, something you already know, but this actually works fine I’m pleased to say. Yes, superbly drawn trees, a couple of the foreground ones could have been much darker I feel, as well as the barrier!

Lovely lively painting Fiona. I’d leave the left half of the fence only as a colour contrast and allow the viewer through the right half

I think it’s great Fiona but I would agree with Carol. Just darken the shadows on the posts.

Very impressive painting once more Fiona.

PogArt, Anne, Valerie, Michael, Jenny, Fiona, Chris, Heather, Denise, Avril, David, Alan, Martin, Spencer, George…..thank you all for your thoughts and observations ref the barrier. I know the barrier is a distraction and an obstacle, but for health and safety reasons I didn’t want any of you to fall in! Plus, to me, it’s about the barrier but I do also know that it isn’t right. I was thinking more of breaking up the solid orange but, I agree with you that darker shadows perhaps is the way to go…thank you all x Lol…..Michael, your reference about Eric Morecambe, made me laugh!

No it’s great Fiona, it’s called ‘the Barrier’ so leave it I say…. Lovely style as always, beautiful trees.

This is absolutely stunning, Fiona - I don't think it needs any improvement at all, it's just perfect! There's so much wonderful detail - the textures of the tree barks, the layered background, the shimmer of the burn and the rickety fence all coming together beautifully.

Lovely painting, I especially like the contrasting flash of blue in the water.

Super Fiona.

Carole, Seok, Coral, Emma, Sylvia…….thank you very much for commenting, appreciate your feedback.

It’s full of light, movement and colour Fiona.

Thanks very much Shaun for your lovely comment.

I love this! It's just loose enough to look fresh and detailed enough to show your technique. I want to climb over that fence.

You mustn’t climb over Bill, it a big drop! Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Thank you Maureen pleased you like it.

10”x8” mixed media…watercolour, graphite and oil pastel. I didn’t take my sketchbook out on my walk today, too windy and too cold! Did this from memory when I got home….in the warmth. A road works barrier on the lane where a burn runs under it, and with all the rain lately the stone wall and part of the bank has collapsed. I found it difficult to STOP……so a tad over done. I think I need to put some white blocks on the barrier to break it up?
