The Fens

Comments

This is lovely. Nice effects and beautiful colours. You have managed to capture the atmosphere of the fens really well.

Wow, I'd love to be there and sense that. Beautiful Fiona.

A beauty Fiona. Love the way you have painted your lovely watercolour painting 🥰

Beautiful painting, scene Fiona, I can feel that lost in silence, brilliant.

Thank you very much ladies for your lovely kind words. I lived in the Lincolnshire fens once upon a time and when there looked as if it was going to be a spectacular sunset I would get on my pushbike, for a mad dash of a mile or so, to the best spot to see it. Never disappointed.

This is so very atmospheric, Fiona. Great scenery and so well painted.

The colour effects of this painting are quite magical! I love it!

Beautiful, love that light from the sun.

That’s a fantastic sky, great colours

Super watercolour

Beautifully painted Fiona , so good when it reminds you of sights you have seen , the fens can be beautiful at sunset .

Wild, wet and beautiful, Fiona.

Love the wetness of this Fiona. Superb wet ku wet washes and colours.

Michael, it’ll be a long journey back….

That sun gives this a very lyrical atmosphere.

Beautiful watercolour Fiona. I am off to Ely this weekend and has made me look forward to it even more!

Beautifulscene, Fiona, and very well painted.

This is super Fiona, lovely composition and colours

A great watery space, like you say Fiona, the sky and land go on forever.

Beautifully captured Fiona. Again love the looseness of your brush strokes.

This is gorgeous Fiona - really beautiful effects

A beautiful, watery mysterious atmosphere!

Thank you so much everyone for your kind and generous comments, they are very much appreciated. Marjorie I thought you were talking about me for a moment there…lol. I doubt I could swing my leg over a bicycle seat never mind ride one back to Lincolnshire. Lucky you Sarah, a visit to the Isle of Eels. Ely is a lovely place, one of my favourite antique hunting places, especially the three floor old warehouse by the quayside. Have a great time, don’t forget your paints.

Thank you Fiona, will check out that antique shop - sounds wonderful! My favourite shops are the three storey book shop and the -yes! - actual art shop!! Will be dropping some Christmas hints!!

Beautiful colours and perspective, wonderful fresh feel about this sketch/painting. You know how fond I am of your watercolours and yes I have tried out old Holland but a bit concerned about there lightfast ratings, to many confusing reviews and very expensive. But does not deter from this beauty though! Keep them coming and I am just going back over the ones I missed?👍

You have captured exactly what you have written, very beautiful Fiona

Don’t know the Fens at all Fiona. But this could tempt me… brill.

Beautiful washes and the inclusion of the warm orange sets this painting off perfectly Fiona.

Many thanks William, Heather, Sylvia, Shaun for your lovely comments. William, have I missed a posting of yours using old Holland?

Hi Fiona, I pretty sure I have not posted any old Holland paintings yet but I will do when I get chance.

A stunning watercolour, beautiful

Look forward to seeing any differences William. Thank you Hilary, that’s very kind.

I also lived in Lincolnshire not so long ago and there were definitely some spectacular sunsets in those 'big skies'. This is lovely Fiona; you have really done the Fens justice!

It's a super painting of the fens Fiona. Can't help seeing a witch flying in the sky and some other interesting features!

I think everyone has said it all. It feels peaceful. Beautiful.

Karen, Diane, Ellen…..many thanks ladies, I’m very grateful for your comments.

Super industrious watercolour indeed Fiona, lots of interesting passages and movement in that sky. It’s a 50/50 split… intentional?

Thanks Alan. Of course it’s intentional, it’s the only way to get a comment from you! 😂

The Fens are not far from me, in fact I used to live on the fens .... Your work encapsulates the look and feel of them.

Never been to the fens but you've made them look and sound a beautiful place to visit Fiona.

Thank you Gudrun, I had a feeling that you were close to the fens in Lincolnshire. I’m glad you think I capture a little of the atmosphere. Val, thank you very much for your lovely remarks, appreciated.

Thanks Romila!

14”x14” watercolour on Saunders. There is something special about these open flatlands of water, reeds, marshes, and skies that go on forever. It feels as if you could be the only person on Earth……lost in the silence.
