Refused to Bloom!

Comments

Like it Fiona , beautiful colours, it’s a pain when they don’t bloom, but are still beautiful in another way.

Very good and spontaneous and finding a use for a non flowering rose.

What a great pen and wash, Fiona. I like to draw and paint withered flowers, they make a beautiful subject.

Gorgeous! I love those beautiful colours.

A really stunning piece, Fiona! Just love that gorgeous palette and the wonderful translucency of the washes. And yes, thank you very much, your links were really useful!

Well it didn't go to waste Fiona, it's produced a lovely watercolor even if it did refuse to open, 😍

Very good indeed, a lovely approach

Beautifully powerful colours and excellent pallette choice.

Your kind and generous comments are always appreciated ....Paul, Richard, Mia, Margaret, Seok 👍, Linda, Heather and Graham....thank you very much. I may even get another couple of paintings from it!

Really like this.

Well it’s good to see something like this that’s on its last legs, far more interesting in my book! Well done Fiona, well painted...

Gorgeous colours in this, Fiona. Even a dying flower can make a lovely painting!

LOVE the colours you've chosen Fiona. I've got a broken off piece of sweet pea next...

Diane, Tracy thank you both very much. Thanks Alan. I agree about this kind of subject being interesting to use as a basis for a painting, or sketch. I haven’t thrown it away yet and fancy a bash in oils.....what to you think? You’re right Jenny.....it’s difficult to get that decayed look, which I don’t think I managed to be honest but I think it does look a tad tired, at least. Marjorie thank you. Look forward to seeing your piece of sweet pea, they can be quite fragile cant they. Your last flower accident was superb and no doubt your sweet pea will be just as accomplished. I may try and keep this going and see what else I can get from it.

You have done it proud Fiona. I like the colours and forms.

Yes it’s got some mileage left in it, Some nice thick oil impasto would be an idea.

A real stunner Fiona. Lovely mingling of colours.

Beautiful painting, Fiona!

Love the title and the inventive array of drooping flowers Fiona. Just so different and refreshing.

This is lovely Fiona. Love your colour choice and the looseness and transparency

Love this Fiona, the purples look brilliant, the subject is perfect for the loose style you've adopted. A cracker.

Good work Fiona, Love it.

Nice that you've plucked success out of a natural failure, Fiona, with a nice wet-washy watercolour. Sometimes it might seem easier to paint perfection but you have given a wilting subject much more interest.

Many thanks everyone for your supportive comments. I’m hoping it will hang on for a wee while longer.....rain forecast tomorrow, oil paints out, hopefully.

There's not much gets past your artistic eye Fiona. You have produced a lovely painting here and from the nature of your replies to comments made I suspect we may see more of this sad rose.

Hello Carol, yes it isn’t going to get to the compost heap yet! Thanks for your comment, look forward to hearing all your news later.

Excellent, lovely colours

Colours in this are beautiful, you have made something sad look beautiful.

Romila, Jennifer....thank you both very much.

Beautiful and loose, gorgeous colours Fiona

Such an eye catching painting. The palette is really appealing and I love the composition

The combination of translucency, composition and palette have made this painting so eye catching

Perfect use of watercolour Fiona.

Anjana, Diana, Shaun....thank you so much for your lovely comments.

Lovely Fiona. Love your colours and technique.

Thank you Dorothy, you’re very kind.

Sketchbook, watercolour and sepia ink. Haven’t done anything arty for a couple of days ......I was about to throw this rose on the compost heap as it has refused to flower, (broke it off whilst deadheading) its withered to a dried up bud. Rather than waste it altogether I’ve done a sketch of it.
