I like this very much. A lot of line work involved (there always is, I find), but it’s paid off handsomely. Pen and wash, or just straight pen alone, is definitely one of your strengths.

A lovely Dales village scene, Paul with good lead in with the road. Love the walls too!

That's breathtaking! I absolutely love it! As a huge fountain pen fan, I'm now eager to practice with my dip pen and ink again...it looks fantastic, Paul!!! ✒️

Very good Paul, congrats, you'd never know it was your first attempt at large scale, A3 is quite a whopper!

Superb pen work, excellent drawing.

Finished well, a really super drawing Paul.

Those buildings work very well Paul.

Very good Paul, you've gone large! You said once that A3 would be a challenge for you so well done!

Thank you everyone for your most generous comments, I appreciate them . Not sure that I will do such a big landscape as this unless of course I see something that shouts out to be drawn this size, but I will do smaller ones.

Great perspective here Paul.

Really good Paul, good strong composition and the right amount of detail where it’s needed. Well done.

I love this. I like the way the road leads in to the buildings !

This is lovely Paul. You’re definitely doing well with pen and ink.

Marjorie, Andrew , Valerie and Christine Thank you for the lovely comments.

What a lot of hard work Paul. I’m sure it was worth it to achieve such a great result. The stonework is fabulous.

Super work Paul.

An impressive result Dixie, and I like the monochrome effect.

You have some patience, Paul, with all those individual stones and bricks and it all pays off in an attractive picture. The fading tones in the distant hills give it real depth.

Lovely scene, Paul, looks good in monochrome.

Carole, Denise, Tessa, David and Jenny I appreciate your kind comments.

You could have detailed this to death - but you didn't! That broad lead-in helps, by pushing the buildings back and helping to create a sense of openness.

I spotted this on the forum Paul, what a wonderful result. Great composition and subtle use of the pen……love it!

Thank you Robert and Fiona I appreciate your comments. I realised earlier on the it could be so easy to overwork the building etc , I decided to leave some as if they had render on then rather than being stone faced.

Stunning pen and wash. Beautiful composition!

A pen and ink drawing on A3 paper, the full explanation of how I did this scene is on the forum with stage by stage photos. The shadow and clouds were achieved using diluted ink and a small paint brush. Enjoyed the process and I learned so much about drawing with the dip pen and India ink , and how messy my fingers can get . First attempt at such a large pen and ink landscape.

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
