St Benets at Holme

Lovely watercolour Paul - I visited the site on the Broads last week as we were sailing to Wroxham and this is a very good image of the site!!

Always interesting to read your descriptions and another good watercolour

A lovely watercolour of a lovely place.

Lovely job Paul, it’s some years since I visited the broads. Edward Seago painted this scene many times, often from his rather nice traditional style yacht!

A beautiful little watercolour Paul, love the simplicity of both the foreground and background on this one. And, yet again, one of my favourite subjects!

Thank you David, Heather, David, Alan and Anth for you very kind comment. I was aware that Seago painted the sene and have admired his paintings of it , sadly I didn’t have the yacht today or when I visited or I would have done the same . I wanted the mill to be the focus Anth hence the simple surroundings, old building are a subject I do like to do now and then.

Lovely mellow colours on that old building Paul. Very nice watercolour.

Thank you Marjorie for taking the time to look and comment I appreciate it.

A lovely watercolour, Paul - a lot to like here!

Thank you Anne and Spencer for you kind comments.

Lovely watercolour Paul - I particularly like the way you have done the sky. Interesting to read about the place too.

Thank you Sarah, I pleased the scene is still recognisable today from what David said I assume it’s repaired and locked after.

Lovely watercolour Paul.

Thank you for taking the time to look and comment Denise I really appreciate it.

Really conveys a sense of the place.

Thank you Jacqueline, the place has a very peaceful atmosphere when I last visited what helped wax there was me and the wildlife only.

Lovely work Paul

A4 watercolour on Bockingford paper of St Benets Abby at Holme or Hulme . It believed the mill was built into the ruins of the Abby in the 1700s originally for crushing Cole (Rape) and was later converted to a water pump of which there are many on them Norfolk Broads. The ruins of the Abby and mill are now Grade 1 listed buildings. My last visit was in the 1980 s and restoration work was just starting.
