I think this is one of your best Paul. It stood out as soon as I saw it.Rigging? Nothing wrong that I can see - just the old familiar doubts most of us have. Really good!!

Wow Paul, you get better and better. As Marjorie says…one of your best.

Thank you Marjorie and Lew , feel happier with it now having such good comments from two excellent artists . It does make you look at it again without the negativity and is reassuring.

The only mess here Paul is what's cluttering up the beach and you have captured it excellently. I love your busy boat scenes & as everyone as Marjorie & Lewis have said this must rank as one of your best. If you were unhappy with your initial rigging you put all to right with your rigger.

A really lovely painting, Paul and the rigging looks great!

An excellent rendition Dixie. And the rigging looks just fine.

Definitely works fine for me Dixie. I like the use of more colour in the “stuff” around the foreground.

Works well Paul, love the busy foreground!

Eye catching group Paul, well composed.

A cracking watercolour Paul…..I like it very much.

Excellent painting Paul.

Thank you all for such lovely comments, they are totally unexpected I was going to bin it or at least not put it on the gallery. I let Alan have a look and he thought it was ok , so went back and used the rigger , thought it wound work due to my hand injury but it was actually easier that the pencil and rule . I have reviewed my opinion of it and I think it’s ok so won’t be in the bin .

Keenly observed! So much to take in and so much work has gone into this lovely scene.

As ever your beautiful boats captivated me. Lovely

A cracker Paul, one of your very best!

Sarah, Elaine and Russell thank you for your much appreciated comments. I’m really surprised at the response from everyone.

Very good Paul. Straight, intricate and colourful… not wish washy as some artist do on other sites

Thank you Martin I appreciate your comment.

Nothing wrong with the rigging that I can see Paul, and brave to tackle a complicated subject. Well done

This is a really good collection of boats with lovely detail and a great sense of distance. Love this Paul.

It’s definitely a superb piece, that’s indisputable Paul. You have a way of combining colours to great effect!

I agree with all the comments, this is one of your best, just beautiful!!

It's definitely worked Paul and this is a lovely group of boats

As others have said Paul, there is nothing wrong with your rigging. If we wanted to create something perfect, most of us probably wouldn’t paint anything!

Thank you all for such kind comments, I amazing at the response I had honestly thought it wasn’t worth posting at first , I was pleased with the colours but that was all . Just shows what we think we know often the ones you don’t expect art well received.

Boats are such challenging subjects, especially those with masts and rigging. Even more so in a boatyard where they’re overlapping and surrounded by so much paraphernalia. You have painted this complex scene beautifully.

Really well painted Paul.

Excellent painting Paul.

Excellent painting of a complex scene Paul. Well done.

I think this is one of your best Paul! Very good indeed and very appealing. A beautifully balanced composition and colour harmony as well as attention to detail.

James , Peter, Denise , George and Diane many thanks for your very kind comments.

Another lovely boat watercolour Paul. I always really enjoy seeing them.

Thank you David for your kind comment.

Watercolour on A3 paper, boats near the Pin Mill awaiting restoration and repair. Based on a online photo that I have adapted by adding some more scenery and boats etc . I am ok with the boats but cross with myself regarding the rigging , because of my hand problem I used a pencil and rule , made such a mess , but struggled to repair with a rigger , hope it’s worked.

About the Artist
Paul (Dixie) Dean

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
