I love the tilt of the boat Dixie and the sails. It really looks as though it’s heading away out to sea.

Great sense of motion with the boat, and a great sea too

Beautiful, Paul - can almost hear the waves and seagulls!

Great image Paul… my favourite subject!

Tessa, Trevor and Anne thank you for your kind comments. I back to doing boats as I have lost motivation and by doing something I love to paint it often gives me the boost I need , old boats and rusty trucks do the trick .

Many thanks Alan , I know your very fond of painting sailing barges etc and your very good at painting them.

Excellent painting Paul.

Super painting Paul.

Very nice watercolour Paul

Excellent Watercolour Painting Paul, love the way you've done the sea.

Stephen, Denise, Heather and George thank you for your very kind comments.

Lovely work Paul, very impressive.

Thank you Andy I really appreciate your comment.

That would look good with a dark blue mount Paul - I usually go for off white but in this case…. and I echo Tessa’s comment , it’s full of movement.

Thank you Marjorie, I ever thought about the mount colour as I use white all the time . I can see it in a very dark blue and as you say it will work well.

You’ve captured this so well. I can smell the sea air!

A very nicely angled boat upon a very well painted sea.

This is stunning Paul. Love how the boat leans and that sea is brilliant with a great palette.

Lovely watercolour Paul. Has great movement and I like the sea.

Weigh anchor and away Paul. Lovely topic and execution.

Thank you Elaine, Spencer, Carole and Brian I really appreciate your comments. I usually get a bit flustered about painting the see but for some reason it just worked today with out fiddling with it .

Sorry Jim we must have been typing at the same time , thank you I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment. You paint some fine ships yourself Jim .

A super painting all round Paul; I really like the way you have painted the sea!

Thank you Karen for your kind comment.

Great feeling of speed Paul, I love the water.

oh, what a wonderful scene you have conjured up again Paul! I love this gentle and yet strong dynamics, also visible in this image. I feel the cold breeze, hear the rush of the water, it is very alive! Great painted!

Fiona and Tanja thank you for you very kind comments.

Lovely fresh painting

That's beautiful Paul!

I like this very much. You're right, it must have been a tough life, but these craft always look great as they cruise through the briny.

Cecelia , Diana and Lew thank you for your comments I really appreciate them. They do look good as the move through the water Lew and all the more as they are powered by the wind it all adds up to the attraction I think.

Absolute cracker Dixie. The subtle colours superb

Martin thank you for you comment I really appreciate it.

I missed this one Paul. I really like this painting - you can feel the wind in the sails and sense the moment of the boat.

Beautifully painted Paul, I agree you have captured movement and the colours are lovely together

Good one, Paul, full of movement, and the birds add interest.

Russell, Christine, Cheryl and Jenny thank you for the comments I really appreciate them.

A4 watercolour of a old coastal cargo ship , I do love these old boats with there sails and rigging . Must have been a very hard life working them , and not as romantic as we tend to think , very dangerous as well no doubt. This is a imaginary scene but based on reality and how the ships were rigged etc.

About the Artist
Paul (Dixie) Dean

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
