Duty Boat on a misty morning .

Comments

I find foggy/misty effects in watercolour tricky, you've done a good job here Dixie. The background, with it's 'suggestions' of buildings and another moored ship, is very well done. I like it.

The colours look great Paul, beautifully drawn and painted.

Another great boat painting - love how you have dealt with the mist!

Excellent Paul. Convincing misty effect with the odd area of the boat coming into focus….nice one.

Stunning Paul, love how you captured the boat emerging from the mist.

The mist gives the painting atmosphere

You have achieved a super atmosphere with you early morning duty tug Paul.

Stephen, Lew, Denise, David, Fiona, Carole and Ruth thank you for you kind comment. I wax really in doubt about this as it’s the first time I have tried doing a detailed ship and mist. I found the easiest way for me was to do the background and then detailing on the foreground tug, one it was dry I rewet the areas I wanted misty and dabbed of the paint . At one point it looked a bloody awful mess and I was ready to bin it , once dry it looked better. Will I try it again certainly will .

Thank you Brian, I missed you off as we were posting at the same time I think. Your comment is appreciated a lot.

Lovely Paul. Love the mist. Detailed boat. Great work 😊

Nice work Dixie, your shadow background really makes you colours pop :)

Great misty effect Paul, and good boat detail. Impressive.

Love the mistiness and the boat emerging, really good Paul

Thank you Faye , John, Richard and Heather for your very kind comments.

Can only add to what the others have said, the misty effect is really well done.

I love the misty atmosphere in this. Great boat and really like the soft misty background details.

Lovely work Paul, misty is not easy to do - for me anyway.

Sarah, David and Frank thank you for taking the time to look and comment, it is much appreciated.

I think you have captured this perfectly Paul. The mist has given your painting that little bit extra with your fabulous tug. Well done.

Your comment is much appreciated Chris thank you for taking the time to do so.

This has worked so well Paul. That burst of colour in the funnel and centre is brilliant.

Sylvia and Chris thank you so much for your kind comments.

Superb Paul

Fantastic combination of looseness and detail. Love it

Super, Paul - lovely misty effect allowing the detailed part to stand out well!

Well done Paul. The mistiness is very effectively done and the pop of red against the grey works well.

Rachel,Natasha , Anne and Christine thank you for your comment.

Absolutely beautiful

This is superb Paul. I love the way you have achieved the misty effects over the tug boat and how you have shown, in silhouette, the docks and ships in the background.

Fantastic atmosphere Paul.

Well executed. End result is what matters ! Never trash work as you never know how you can re-work it later.

Sunil thank you for taking the time to comment, it’s really appreciated.

A3 mixed media paper , watercolour paint . Imaginary scene of a duty tug boat awaiting instructions in the early morning mist. Loosely based on the lower Thames towards Gravesend. Fictional name as it’s my youngest granddaughters name , she love it if I name a bits, farm or just include her many in a painting. I enjoyed doing this but have to admit to feeling a bit unsure of the end product , still it’s good practice and a learning curve as well.

About the Artist

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
