That is superb, Paul. I like the way you are bringing a horse into your maritime painting!

Another interesting bygone. I like the painting, too.

Thanks, David , Faye, Heather and Lew for your kind comments.

Great painting Paul and it is always important keeping history alive.

Interesting info as always Paul and a fine painting of this occasion.

Thank you for your lovely comments Denise, Chris and Neil they are appreciated. Two of my favourite subjects, history and art. I also love painting boats and having just started painting horses I can add them together where possible, two great subjects to paint, think I’m in heaven here.

A lovely boat scene Paul.

Wonderful Painting Paul.

Thank you David and David for you comments they are appreciated.

Really interesting subject well painted.

Brilliant, Paul, especially love the sails on both boats!

Thanks Paul and Thalia your comments are appreciated.

Very well painted Paul, great job on the horse.

Interesting concept

Bryan and Alan thank you for your comment.

Great horse and kelp gatherers Paul. Maybe wrong but think this is still done around North Norfolk and Hunger Estuary.

Thanks Richard , your probably right it’s a practice that still goes on even in modern times . I do know it continues in and around Brittany, and in many of the island ext throughout the world. Good free fertiliser , with no added chemicals, and free to the collector , can’t be bad, hard work I bet.

Super painting Paul & it is really interesting to learn the history behind it.

Thank you for your comment Brian, I do like to know the story behind my paintings if it possible to find it.

Interesting subject Paul, and nicely painted. Good work.

Thanks Jim your comment is appreciated.

You have taught me something Paul with your lovely painting to illustrate it.

Thank you Diane , it’s a plus when it also teaches something, I do love painting these scenes from the past and learn about it as well.

A4 watercolour on Bockingford paper . Gathering kelp , once a common sight along the British coast and all over the world. Still gather for fertiliser but mostly by machine these days. Kelp was gathered throughout the two word wars as a source of iodine.
